On the contrary.

Someone (I think it was robbycamaro) made brackets to relocate the caliper, allowing them to be mounted on a 1G. Some company online sells them, too, for around $100 a pop, though I forget the name of the people who sell it. They were for an N/A 3SI, but I remember the consensus saying they would work on a 1G as well. Just run a search, you'll find it.

- edit -

Sorry, I misread the part where you said you made custom brackets already. OMG

Yeah, I saw them. They are for the 2nd gen. Im going to email that guy that sells them and ask him what kind of wheels will fit the 2nd gen using those bracket and calipers.

thanks for the info though

I've talked with this guy before, his brackets will fit a 1G perfectly. If you have 1G VR-4 calipers/rotors, some 16" wheels will fit, all 17" wheels should clear diameter-wise. You will probably need wheel spacers unless your wheels have a lot of offset. +35 to +40mm offset or so may clear depending on the wheel.

finally done here is a pic with the 2nd gen rotors and calipers :thumb: :dsm:

They're 13.1" Mustang Cobra rotors with 1G VR-4 TT brakes, whipped up some adapters out of aluminum.

Can some body pm me some info about the caliper brackets, I don't know if posting it would be within the forum guidelines.

Thank you wartdog and ramenpride for sending me the link. I emailed him to see what the problem with the 2g is, maybe I can get this to work with my after-market wheels. We'll see...

IM back after several years. Lol.

so did anyone find where to get the brackets? i wanna do VR-4 front brakes on my 1991 talon

Get on galantvr4.org. Find a member by the name of Garfield. He is who makes them. I bought some about two months ago. I love the way the new brakes feel and look on my talon. Im running a 18x8 et40 and I had to have a 10mm spacer to clear the calipers.

I dig those brackets but ... well it just seems like there should be more to them on something as important as the brakes. I would be worried that under heavy braking they may break. What do you guys think? Do they feel sturdy enough?

The brackets in the ebay auction I posted are very sturdy 1/2" thick steel. I haven't driven the car yet, but they feel rock solid.

Ive done some fairly hard braking on them. the pedal is solid. Not much fade what so ever!

What year are the aluminum ones off of? The older ones used cast right?

Heres some shots of the brakes on my talon. I have a 10mm spacer up front with extended studs to clear the calipers. I love the clearance I have with the spacers, it looks perfect! ENJOY!
