VISUAL difference in 6 and 7 bolt (i searched)

ok i just spent a good long while sifting through threads looking for visual differences in the 6 bolt and 2g 7 bolt engines but the only thing i end up finding is mechanical differences and compression ratio differences. i know all of that now but i want to know how to visually identify it, i saw a thread about this but i cant for hte life of me find it. something abotu the oil pan.

the rason is my freind is thinking of sellign is 1g and getting a 2nd gen but we can tell the engine is not original and hte owner has no idea whats been done to the car its been heavily modded and has an aftermarket turbo, im taking pics today and will post them but what are some ways for me to visually identify what engine is in the bay. any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
