ok I've done my research on 6 bolt and 7 bolt motors but I need to know exactly how to tell them apart quick b/c I am thinking about buying a 2g gst but the guy says he has a 6 bolt transplanted into it so I wanna make sure he is not lying

Also how can I tell a big 16g from a 14b is it the wheel or something like that ? Thanks in advance guys I really appreciate it.

Well if it has a huge CAS on the left side of the motor, that's a good start, but the only way you'll be able to tell for certain is if you drop the tranny and look at the flywheel bolts.

You can also check the oil pan, but I'm not certain.

mmm...sounds like too long of a process...mmm...b/c the car has 140k or something on the shell but the engine has alot less + it's a 1g so I mean it's a huge difference (not to mention that the 1g engine is supposed to have like 40k on it).

What do you think I should do when I go check the car out ? Try to find a local dsm guy that could go with me ? Ask around about the guys car ?

Nice. Well explained 91Tsi FWD. Yeah, that's how I figured mine when I bought it. Also, ask for records (duh)...I did't and my engine ran like crap though it was "rebuilt".

ok well, 89 to early 93 has 6 bolt correct? later half of 93 and newer has 7 bolt?
is everything reversed on the motors? like isnt the intake on the passanger side on 6 bolt and on the driver side on 7 bolt? or is that how the turbo engines differ? am i just talkin out of my ass about all this?

Pretty much out of your ass. Nah, J/K. The 420A or whatever NT eclipse engine (95-99) draw intake on the driver's side. The turbo 4g63 and the NT 4g63 (90-94--yes, they are out there) engines have the intake piping on the passenger's side.

if i where you i would use the oil pan test.... you could look for the 1g cas but that honestly doesnt mean shit...he could have just swapped a 1g head on the 2g block.

also if the car is running a 1g head with a 1g cas ask him if he's fixed the random missfire. to find more info on it go to www.magnusmotorsports.com and read the 1g in a 2g article.

good luck

I will check the oil pan to be sure but here are pics of the engine I have no clue what a CAS is so if you can see it on there I guess that would be a good sign can someone tell me if it does have the CAS on the left side of the motor ? thx

Also I know 1G's have a motor mount in the front, which is not in that pic, but I think it it removed when you swap the motors. That I'm not sure about though. Find a review on putting a 6 bolt in a 2g and see what they do with the motor mount. Hope this helps.

Yeah, the evo 8 does have its cam gears on the pass. side but is still nothing like the NT dsms (420a). Correct me if im wrong, but isn't the evo 4 the first year they put the engine in opposite to the 4g63 in earlier dsm's. Also, what is the reason for doing this...just curious, didn't mean to jump off topic.

Czech09, looks like a good deal. I say go for it man, just be careful for the obvious signs and you should be ok. By the way, did you find out yet if it is 6 or 7 bolt? :thumb:

Looks like a 6 bolt to me, another way to check is see where the water pipe is taped for the turbo. You can tell the difference between a 2g and 1g. The CAS Cam angle sensor looks like a 6 bolt to me :thumb: I just did the swap in my car and everything is fine. No misfires yet so lets keep fingers crossed. Good luck man depending on the cost i would go for it and have fun with it. Do Ross Pistons and Eagle rods of something with a little head work and a FP Red turbo you'll hit 500whp so I would say thats worth the buck

No haven't found out yet I will hopefully go check it out early next week (I'm trying to find a local dsmer that could go with me just to be sure)

Ya LOL 500whp for what cost I don't have another $5-10k on top of the car to spend in mods man - I'll stick with the 16g that's supposedly in it for now and maybe throw in a fmic - I'm still in college man don't have alot of $ but when I mod stuff I don't wanna take shortcuts. I mean all the stuff I'd have to buy to get to 500whp - a new tranny (or get it built), fmic, the red turbo as you said, pistons, rods, etc etc ton of other stuff. Just don't have that kind of money.

Well I'll let you guys know when I get it thanks alot :thumb: :dsm:

does the radiator have like a wood grain looking finish on the top? i think the early 6 bolts had the rare wood grain looking finish

that's all the pics I have right now I haven't been to the guys place to look @ it yet.
