Charlottetown,
Ok so I need to remove both the upper and lower window trim from mt 2g. It doesent say how to do it in my haynes manual and I dont want to risk breaking the trim. Can anyone tell me how to get them off. Is there a v faq somewheres?

to remove the upper piece you pull down the weather stripping and remove the screws holding it in place. There will be 2 metal "layers" just remove the first one and then the second one will be the actual exterior molding. To reinstall it just put it back in the way you got it out and push the weather stripping back in it should pop back into place. Oh and to remove the upper pull it towards the back of the car when removing not stright out.

To remove the lower you need to take off the interior door panel and then the "inner" weather stripping and then there should be 2 screws holding it on. look at the diagram for more help.

Also is there any rubber like paint available that i cant paint the trim with that will look at all like original? I dont really feel like forking over $150 for new trim

It will never look right without just buying new ones, I had to just break down and get them new. If I remember though, there were only a few new pieces still in stock at mistu and they were'nt sure if there were going to be any more made or not. I used some vinyl trim tape on one of my 1g's after peeling all of the cracked plastic off, and it did'nt look too bad. Nothing makes a dsm look nicer than nice new uncracked trim though. Just make sure to armour all (uv protect) new ones from now on if you go that route. I just cant see how an owner can see them fading and cracking when the car was new, and not do anything to save them?

yes its called plastidip...i bought it at home depot a while back the black it perfect! i redid mine and they look brank new..just remember to scrap off all of the old plastic so its down to the metal and then use some sand paper to scratch it up lightly. I saved A LOT of money doing it this way and it looks oem! and will probly last longer!

thanks for the reply

what are my options of getting them besides from a dealership and a junkyard
or someone selling parts from their car

do any sites sell trimmings?

Nope, thats dealer only and any used ones will look the same or worse than yours. It makes a used dsm look so new though when you replace them.

Yea, that's the piece. Mine are horrible, but I can't bring myself to spend $200 to repair both sides yet

But hey, I suppose if you are the only place with new ones, you can charge that much!

I just picked up my set from machv.com and the uppers were $65 plus shipping for the pair. So its not that much. Anyway, what do you guys recommend putting on to help protect against the UV?
