I re-did my headliner in black vinyl this past winter, and it is now starting to fall in a few different places. Has anyone else done this before? What type of adhesive did you use? Any tips/secrets. I'll probably be redoing it soon, but I want to do it right this next time. Please feel free to discuss.

There's a glue you can buy at an autoparts store. Don't know the name of it, but they will. Get some pins. Glue the headliner pin it up and let it dry for a while. Take the pins out and you should be good to go

I used 3M Super 90 on mine. That stuff is supposed to be the strongest. It's held tight until our recent warm weather.

Yeah, that's the stuff I'm talkin' about :)

Did you clean the surface you applied the glue to before you applied the glue? If it's dirty the glue will stick to the dirt and the dirt will stick to well, nothing. Make sure it's clean. Soap and water or alcohol. You could always use gorilla snot. That stuff will hold anything anywhere.

not to hijack thread but could you post a picture of what the headliner looked like when it was in goodshape...

3M 08088 is the best to use for that. it's supposed to be less ceceptable to temperature changes. or, get a good heat activated spray-on glue. that will be good too for your project, but you'll need a spraygun for it, and a heat gun.

i dont know if you took out your old one yet but if you did look at the back of the vinyl where is peeling off. if its covered in foamy crap then chances are that your glue held and the foam just powdered off. you need to sand the headliner good so that it will stick. you can also try fiberglassing or bondoing it to make it smooth and solid.

just a tip when using spray adhesive let it dry a little before and spray both surfaces

you could try taking the whole headliner to an upholstery shop, and having them put in a few decorative stitches. in a pattern, or logo or something, to help hold it. shouldn't be too expensive either i wouldn't imagine

how much dose the headliner weigh???
The OEM, non-modified headliner is extremely lightweight. It weighs next to nothing.
My vinyl headliner weighs a little bit more obviously, but it still isnt much.

Thanks for that link. But I cant see myself spending much money on my interior, unless they are selling those cf headliners for less than $150. :sneaky: Man, I hate their automated site too; It's even slow on my T1 connection. :notgood:

theres a type of spray glue i used to put vinyl on my friends roof in his civic, this was about a year ago, and its still holding strong. I cant remember the name of it though. I got it at home depot. Its just regular industrial spray adhesive. It comes in a black spray-paint-like can.
