I have a 90 gsx 5 speed.

At 2500 rpms i have a vibration. It shakes me inside the car just like a bad u-joint, just not as violent. Its pretty isolated around 2500rpms. Doesnt matter if the clutch is in or out, or what gear its in. I Rigged the car so it would stay at 2500rpms and got under it, i grabbed the driveshaft, it was vibrating pretty good, also the transfer case was. I shoved the driveshaft forward toward the transfer case, and it seem to get better, but it could have been in my head. The motor/tranny mounts are tight. I tried to brake torque the motor, there was no excessive movement. Its not the exhaust. The other thing that made me thing, there is 1 pressureplate to flywheel bolt that is sheered off, i no that. But it has been that way for a while and it was fine. Could they be working out? That little inspection cover doesnt allow me to see those bolts :( Any ideas would be great, ive got the front of the car in the air right now, ill try whatever you guys think. Thanks.

PS: going down the road, when i give it gas it seems to get better.

has your performance suffered at all in respect to the vibration occuring all of the sudden? In other words, could it just be a misfire? If not I would suspect your flywheel being off balance might have caused a bearing failure in your crank or the input or idle shaft of the transmission.
Also, maybe some nice person installed some hks272's and removed your balance shafts in the middle of the night. :sneaky:

No the performance has not suffered. There seems to be a noise with it also, like a buzzing noise (the sound a vibration makes, if that makes sense) it really seems to be coming from the tranny/transfer case area, not the engine.

Look at your carrier bearing, they are a commom cause of driveshaft vibration. Look at the rubber on the inside, if its torn thats your problem, otherswise drain your transfercase fluid, if you got silver then you blew a bearing in that. Also look for signs of the the transfercase recall, like fluid on the underbody around the transfercase. Take luck :D

you stated that you got under the car and moved stuff around while it was doing it. I assume you didn't have the trans engaged. If it's doing it in neutral at 2500, then nothing in your drive train can be causing it because nothing is moving in there. before assuming the worst that it's internal engine, are you sure that it not just something grounding out on the body?

your transmision, which is part of your drivetrain, is moving when your in neutral with the clutch engaged. Your trans input shaft and idle shaft are spinning.

Anyone with more input? My 2g Talon AWD is doing the exact same thing. I just sent the tranny off to TRE and had it torn apart and doesnt look to be a transmission problem.
