ok so the motor in my gsx seems to be blowing oil. first of all, there is a ton of smoke coming out of the breather (on the valve cover). oil comes outta there like crazy too.

i just replaced the oil cap for the third time. everytime i buy a new one, a week later , oil starts leaking, acumulating on the spark plug wires.

also, the crusher in the oil feed line might've also bitten the dust. it leaks everywhere. i just removed the intake pipe to check for shaft play and there was some oil by the compressor wheel. disconnected intercooler piping and there is oil in there too.

all this started happening after the breather on the valve cover started smoking like crazy.

btw, compression is pretty damn low...120, 90, 15, 75 :barf: from what i remember.

is the head screwed too?

Ouch, those numbers suck.

It's time to do a little work, hopefully it's just a couple of bent/burnt valves allowing the pressure into the valve cover area blowing the oil out wherever it can. It can also be the rings and PCV valve (but I imagine with those numbers the PCV valve is the least of your issues), or a combination of the above.

Sounds like winter project time.

too bad the "winter project" is my daily driver :( .

yeah before the whole smoking out of the breather, the numbers were a little higher. maybe 15 psi higher than what they are now. compression went up when used the wet compression test.

ok so the car idles a bit high when its cold, but when it warms up, it just dies when idling...anyone have a solution to this problem so i can keep driving the car for some time?

With compression numbers that low you likely wont be able to get it to idle when warm unless you turn the idle up which would mean when it is cold it will idle really high. Also your motor will probably not survive much longer because the numbers are so low. When I lost compression on one cylinder in my car it caused the oil pressure to sky rocket and it blew the seals in the turbo and I barely made it home with a trail of smoke behind me. You should start looking now for another engine be it new or used.LOL

well i bought a ton of parts to rebuild it. the thing that pisses me off thought is that i heard the machine shop takes forever specially now over the winter.

what was wrong with your motor?

To find out if its your rings, do your compression test, find out your bad cyl. ( I think the servicable limit is 121psi) pour a capful of oil in the low compression cyl. then test it again. The oil should make a temp. seal. If your compression for that cyl. goes up a decent amount more than likely its your rings.

When I pulled the head off of my motor it had a hole in the side of the piston on cylinder #3. The funny thing was that it happened almost instantly and never made any noise. Luckily I had a spare motor from a second car that I bought for $100.00 from a lady who didint want to bother with a new ecm for it.
