hey guys so om getting ready to install my tranny and i was thinking about having my center diff welded to get nice 50/50 power transfer but then i read up about the bolt in eliminator that only requires you to pop off the back cover and get rid of the VC all together and you dont even have to split the tranny case. Is the eliminator just as strong as welding the center diff and will it accomplish the same effect or should i just plit the tranny and have it welded?? input guys thanks. also how much works involved in splitting the cse halves to get the center diff out. I have searched and read all the posts and seen exploded views but pictures only help so much.

so i decided to go for the "free" way out. just took the tranny apart gonna have my friend tig it all tommoro can i still install the VC coupler like stock after its welded and it will just not do anything since the diff is welded? ill still get 50/50 correct?

took the pieces to my buddy who is a welder and he tigged them up for me put it all back together now just waiting to get it back in the car. i dont haver to eliminate the VC itself right now correct? i can leave it in there and it wont effect anything since the two shafts it used to control are welded together at the other end?

Grrrr. A welded "diff" is not a diff any more, so it does not have a torque split. It won't be 50/50; it will be anything from 0/100 to 100/0 from moment to moment, depending on the levels of grip at the two ends of the car.

Sticking the VC back on to a car with a welded center will have no effect at all, as you said. Thus, it still won't be 50/50 because it still won't be a diff.

If it was a good idea to use a VCE full time, it wouldn't be suggested for "dyno use only" and people wouldn't be getting the center differential welded properly.

Agreed. The only reasons that I can see to run a VCE (off the dyno), instead a welded center, is that it is orders of magnitude easier to install and easily undone if you change your mind. Once you decide that you really want a center spool, weld the thing and get on with your ten-seconds-at-a-time life. tee hee

Well the reason im asking about putting in the vce with the welded diff is because removing the 7lb or so viscois cpipler for something much lighter would free up a little rotating mass. I know its unoticeable but every ounce counts.

My center diff is welded. I so the vc has no purpose other than to retain the snap ring at the end thats why i was wondering if a vce could be used in its place my center diff has no guts to explode

Yes you can use a cut down V/C.

You need something (NOT A HOSE CLAMP!!!!) to hold that little ball in place, nothing more.
