Wow. For personal occasional use it would definately be really really excesive, but for a machine shop it would be a good investment imo. Is that a pneumatic tool? Looks like it would do the job pretty quick and easy...

he does heads on the side - hahahaha

Hes a dealer for hahn turbos and is a machinsit so this helps alot.. and yes that is a pnumatic

hmm, when i changed the valve seals on the 92 i made my own spring compressor. i welded a socket to the end of an 8" c clamp, i made sure the socket was the same diameter as the spring, i think it was 3/8" but i could be wrong. then i cut part of the socket out for easy acess. working on my car for 2 hours a day and it being the first time i ever did anything like that, it took me about a week and a half to do all 16 valves

I have the best answer for this topic. I work at Advance Atuo parts and we just started a tool rental program. I dont know if it has started in your area yet but it has at my store. We rent out the exact tool you need to get the job done. It is the one that looks like a C-clamp. Best of all IT IS FREE. All you do is buy the tool and when your done return it and you get all your money back.

Actually you can make one from 1" box section for about $5 and 1/2 hour out of your life if you can weld or braze. It's shaped like the letter "F" where the 2 horizontal lines are notched so they form a clevis and through bolted through the vertical. A spark plug is welded to the top horizontal piece, the bottom has a slotted hardened sleeve which will bear on the spring hat and allow keepers to be removed. The distance between the bolt holes must be the distance from the spark plug arm (which much be able to swivel so it can make a straight line with the handle/lever) and reach the spring hats on 2-3 valves each. The lever arm needs to clear the firewall or any obstruction, the one I made for my son's car had only about 12" so was a bit short to get the proper leverage. I've used these for over 40 years and made them for special applications such as this.

With these you can stuff the cylinder with string, bring it up on compression and do the seals without removing the head for each cylr. You will need a bent coathanger wire to hook the string and pull it out, don't be greedy and try to get great gobs of string for it's not coming out and you don't want to know about setting a fire down inside the cylr. :)

Cheers,
GTM

If anyone has a valve spring compressor they can let me rent from them send me a private message.

I recently took springs off my heads but the head was off the car. Which is maybe a better idea anyway as you can put in better head gasket, freshen things up etc.

You need an 8 inch big c clamp and o2 socket .Thats it worked perfect and was like 15 bucks US for both. Now with head on you need one of those other pricier tools or to make up something.
