Just swapped in another 6 bolt block to my 90 GSX. Reused the head off my other block (rebuilt 5k miles ago), as well as the timing components (replaced those 5k miles ago as well). I did not reuse my mitsu 4 layer metal headgasket and went with a brand new cometic hg just to be safe. Cam timing is dead on and everything functions well, but I have a valve tap coming from one of the cylinders. When I got the rebuilt head, it did not come with lifters or rocker arms so I reused my 85k mile old 1g lifters (they never ticked or gave me a problem) and rockers. Could a stuck lifter be causing this? It is weird because it sounds like the tick is only coming from one set of valves. As I said, I rechecked cam timing and it is dead on so I'm trying to determine what to check to figure out this dilemma. I am looking into replacing the lifters with a set of brand new revised ones to see if that solves the problem. What else could this be besides a lifter?

By the way, I replaced the block due to worn piston rings. I decided to just swap in another block to save me time as I was using someone else's garge to do the work. Did not feel like just doing a ring job on my old block as I would rather save up a little and rebuild it. The head I reused had no bent valves and is in perfect condition. Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I had the same thing happen to me after i put in lifters....... I know on a lot of cars they have to be primed or pumped up. Mine made noise for about the first 30 miles or less and then it went away. If its something like that once it sees enough oil it should go away

but the thing is I had run that head on my old block for 5k miles and they never ticked. This sounds more like a tap and not just a small lifter tick. Do you think from letting the head sit for about 2 weeks that maybe one of the lifters is just not lubricated enough yet? I would think that all the lifters would be doing that but then again I'm not sure.
