on the 1g upgrade path under free mods it is stated that the 4 vac lines coming off the throttle body can be taken off and blocked at the throttle body and its corresponding nipples on the engine. all at the same time i put in some 780cc pte injectors with an a/t fpr (43 psi) and a walbro 190 along with a 2g maf, fmic, keydiver stage 3 chip and blocked off those vac lines. when i first start it up its a little sluggish and requires a little revving to get running mint. and the idle fluctuates alot and im able to usually drive it. when i drive it the car is mint and pulls with no problem whatsoever. when i put it in neutral to roll to a stop or whatever the idle runs like sh*t and if i dont keep revving the motor it stalls out on me. i thought at first it was that i was running crazy rich and it was causing my plugs to foul out, but i took out my ngk r's and they were perfectly dry and slightly brown which is normal. i swapped in ngk iridiums and no difference. i also tightened up all my ic pipes in case there was a leak and nothing. so there are two other problems im looking at maybe. the vacuum lines need to be hooked back up and a local shop guy told me that i need to run a filter on my car (tight spacing means no filter, i could probably get a screen tho). so any answers or suggestions would be awesome. thanks

p.s. in case it matters its a 93 tsi.

I would say the easiest and cheapest thing for you to do is to hook the vac lines back up and see if idle changes for the better, if not, its not the vac lines that are your problem, and you can move on to a process of elimination. I would instal a screen on the turbo just to keep stuff like big bugs, leaves, ect, ect.. out, no need to ruin a turbo by having something hard getting sucked it. Boost leak test it.

1. Boost leak test
2. If that comes clean, get an AFC cause the chip isn't good for your set-up.

Oh yeah forgot the S-AFC, but dont forget to get a logger as well.

yeah i have an afc just waiting to get money so i can strap it up on a dyno and get it tuned correctly with a wideband. my honey combs on maf are all taken out...i was told that i should probably put those back in :coy: and get some sort of filter/screen on the turbo because without it it messes up the velocity flow. so tomorrow im gonna do that and if nothing works im going to hook up the vac lines...anyone wanna tell me where each nipple on the throttle body connects too? i know 2 connect towards the coolant system, 1 behind the motor and 1 next to the passenger fender well...just not sure which is to which or does it really matter?? thanks :thumb:

The vacuum lines in the center go to the thermo sensor and the egr valve. The others are for emmisions. I have eliminated all of these items.

When running a 2g maf you should not take out any honeycombs, I wouldn't even worry about the throttle body until you get the honeycombs back in.

I don't see the need to run a screen on the turbo if you are going to filter the maf, they make filters that fit.

1g base fuel pressure is 37.5psi with the vacuum line off and plugged.

well between my upper intercooler pipe and the fender. i have roughly about 3 inches after the maf for a filter...the adapter im using is 3" too...ill go search on ebay for one. im gettin the combs from a buddy tonight to put in and i guess we'll see how it goes from there. thanks :thumb:

Here is a link to the Taboo Speed Shop vacuum diagram.

This should help you out as far as line placement. It also shows you how re-route them by bypassing emissions components.
You stated that it has a hard time idling. First, i'd check your timing. Make sure its at 5*BTDC. Next i would adjust the BISS screw.

BISS:http://www.vfaq.com/mods/BISS-1G.html
I would do these steps first, to eliminate any problems. If they still exist, even after tuning with the SAFC, i would look into getting a new chip burned. Something might be messed up with programming and messing with out heads:D
Good luck and keep us updated.

:thumb: :thumb: thanks much.

btw, before anything i put the honey combs back into my maf and rigged up a filter onto it too. perfect now!! well almost....if i under-rev it when leaving a stop it lugs on me a bit, only happened twice tho. other than that my idle will randomly jump from 1000 to 1400 which is my next step. i may connect the lines and see if it makes a difference.

did you forget to turn your fuel pressure down to 37.5? Do that and report back with your idle issue.
