Just wondering if there is anyone from around the Va Beach/SoVA area that had any experience with any machine shops around the area. I haven't lived here long so I really haven't heard anything about any shops down here. Basically I'm looking for a shop that can do all the machine work on the block and a 2g head. A torque plate is a must and so i prior 4g experience. This will be my first complete rebuild so I don't want any machine shop mishaps/screw ups. If there is nothing local I'd have to ship it. I've never shipped anything this big before so I can only imagine I'd get raped on charges.

Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Virginia Speed is right next to you... Check them out they have an amazing shop, and work on alot of different stuff.

Thanks for the recommendations guys I'll have to check these two out. Can anyone confirm any of these shops? Anyone else have any recommendations. I appreciate all the help guys

JAM is pretty far for a drop off and pick-up deal. It's probably my only real good option but i still wanted to look. I took a look at Virginia Speed they mostly deal with older V8's and they also specialize in LS1's. I have also located a shop with an awd dyno in chesapeake which I'm pretty excited about.

Yeah abacus was the shop with the awd dyno. I'm actually planning on goin down and checkin out their shop.

He has an AWD dyno now?

Was going to say don't use Dyno Inc, for sure.

JAM is ok, Gunther's in MD is who I'd use if a torque plate is needed. I have a local shop in Fredericksburg I use when a torque plate isn't needed. Obviously gunther's is a long way for you.

I'm pretty sure it was abacus, I actually first heard about them from an STI guy. I will have to go down on a day off and confirm this. They are literally 10 mins away from me, this is looking like the closest possible option but I will have to check them out. On the topic of a torque plate, I was thinking about buying one. I've seen them listed for around 300, and I'm kinda hoping to build something beastly one day, does anyone think it's worth it? This rebuild is gonna be pretty standard 6 bolt block, new crank, 2g pistons, 2g head. I'm just lookin for a reliable daily motor and from what i know its the machine work thats gonna make or break the reliablility factor.

If you're boring the motor I'd do it.

I think you might be thinking of All Aspects. They are Subaru guys... never really talked to them much but they seem like nice guys.

Might want to post on the SoVa DSM site, more guys from your area on there, might have more recommendations for you.

Abacus has done several heads for me over the years. Chuck and the guys do great work. My only complaint about them is if you are looking for something special, like porting, bowl work, etc, don't be a in rush. If you just need a head rebuilt, they are quick and fast.

Abacus does have a Dyno, but it's a 2WD unit. Kienan at All Aspects Motorsports has an AWD Dynojet with all the bells and whistles. They are primarily a Subaru shop, but they do excellent work on anything. They do all the maintenance on my wifes WRX.
