So in the process of moving while I was at drill one weekend, my girl friend managed to lose the ONLY key to my car so it is stuck at the house I was renting and the landlord wants it moved asap. I was wondering on how to go about it. I am having the car towed to a garage but I am wondering where I can find an ignition switch assembly with a key or if I can just go to a dealer and give them the vin and have them make a key matching it. I have read other threads and one Person seems to think that the ignition needs to be in the ACC mode but I personally have never heard of that so was wondering if that is true as well. I live in a town in va about 5 minutes from the Kentucky border and people around here really frown upon any import so I have no help in finding anything. I have checked numerous junk yards and have yet to find an ignition so any and all help is much appreciated. thanks guys

I would call the closest dealer and ask. If so run down there with your title and have them cut a couple of keys for you.

I had a 94 Honda civic and lost my keys on the beach once. Car stayed there for 3 days and eventually I had a local lock Smith make me a new key. He didn't specialize in cars at all but was able to make the key easily he said. Not sure how much that helps, if any, but it's worth looking into. I'd say stealership should be the last resort. Look up pick and pull yards Iin fresno California, there's eclipses for days there
good luck

Changed the ignition switch in my 2g because it wouldn't engage and the car wouldn't start. Also, once it started a little movement would put it back into the off position. Fairly easy, just unplug the battery and airbags. As for a new key assembly it isn't hard to change, it was surprisingly easy and cheap.

*EDIT* Just realized that you need the key in order to change anything because the lock cylinder has to be turned to the 'ACC' position in order to replace it. Taking your vin to a local dealer would be what I would do, sorry bro.

I would call a dealer. If you need it moved like last night, If the doors are unlocked, You can take all of the plastic that is under the steering column off and there should be 2 bolts that hold the lock tumbler to the column( if I remember right ) that DO NOT have heads on them. You can take a chisel or flat blade screwdriver and a hammer to work the bolts out. Once it is off of the column, you can take the actual ignition switch off of the tumbler. Now you can use a screwdriver to turn the ignition switch on the side that was matted to the tumbler.

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible for any damage done and don't ask me how I know how to do this:thumb:

thanks guys for all of the help. idk if the dealer will do that for me since I don't have the title but im sure that they cld contact my bank to get verification that the car is mine LOL. also looking for fellow dsmers around the Bristol tn grundy va and Pikeville ky area LOL

You should be able to use your reregistration if it's in your name. If not, have whoever(mom, dad, girl, etc.) go with you. The gut that I got my 95 from didn't have the title but we found his registration and they cut him a key.

Edit: by the time he got the key to me, I already had the car at my house LOL.

I got a donor ignition, key and all locks when I got my gvr4. It would have cost way more to repair and have a key made in my situation atleast. I've sold a few sets to guys on here as well that needed to replace everything so you can have one key. Look in classifieds for part outs might save some money and time. It never hurts to give the dealer or even a lock smith a shot. My guy would have done it for like $90 but my ignition was to wasted already. If yours is good you should be able to cut a key for like $60-70. Any locksmith can make you a key with the glove box lock or atleast should be able to.
