santa clara,
I'm in the bay area and I'm just about to buy a 1997 Eclipse Gst. Before buying though, I want a mechanic to do a FULL used car checkup including compression test, etc.

My question is, how good are Mitsubishi dealers in doing a full used car checkup? I want to take it to PSI in hayward but it really is too far. Do mitsu dealers do a good job of finding problems and everything?

Thanks in advance

Take it to the dealer and tell them what you want them to do. They no what to look for. And Ask the if they can messure that crank endplay. It will prob cost 2 hours labor. Good luck

Cars experiencing crankwalk show various symptoms:

1. During left hand turns, the clutch might stick to the floor for a few secods
2. At Idle, engage the clutch. You might hear a ticking-like noise - crank clicking against the crank angle sensor.

What crankwalk sounds like:

By all means take it to a shop and have them check endplay. Before you do, take the car out for a test drive and see if either of the two ommon symptoms appear.

Best of luck.

i woudlnt go to the dealer and tell them that u want a check up they will dick u over sooooooooooo bad...60,000 mile check up from mitsu dealer...consists of...change oil up to five quarts...change oil filter...I LIKE THIS ONE...Lubricate door, hood, and trunk hinges... replace air filter...replace p.c.v valve..perform bg coolant flush serv...check wiperblades...check brakes...perform bg fuel injection service (heavy duty cleaning) replace spark plugs..perform bg battery service..rotate tires (balance extra)...install bg moa...check steering and suspension...visually inspect allignment..check exhaust system...lubricate pitman arm, lower control arm stops & suspension bushings....check belts and hoses...check all fluid levels and top off...check distributor cap, rotor and wires...perform bg professional transmission service...roadtest...set and adjust engine settings to factory specifications....all of that stuff is BS...you dont need half that stuff...ur paying them to check ur wiper blades n grease up ur door hinges? to change air filter oil filter n oil...rediculous....all that stuff comes to 498.00 some of it vary's for how many miles u have but thats what the recommended to me...i said no...heres what i want done...new timing belt...and new water pump n thats it....i think that came to 320 including labor....so my advice is find out what u need dont n dont pay them for stupid shit that doesnt need to be done...dealerships are and always will be a rip off....good luck...if u need anymore service check up price quotes let me kno

whooops...my timing belt and water pump wasnt 320 i was lookin at the wrong receit...it was actually 843 i believe...now u kno when i say dealerhips are a rip off...if i got all the other stuff done i woulda been payin over 1000 easily...thats like a 6th of what i payed for the car...re damn diculous

sorry for filling this thread up with posts but...i forgot one last thing...from what ive heard...crankwalk can happen to anyone at anytime...no matter how u drive ur car...but mechanics can check for effects of crankwalk...stickin a crowbar somehwere under the car i forget but they did for mine back when i had the water pump n timing belt replaced just dont go there n say hey check this for crankwalk...theyll prob charge u like 50 bucks for jackin it up for 10 min

Thanks alot everyone. Tomorrow I'll go to the dealer and have them check for everything. Hopefully everything will be good and I'll have a 97 gst =)

btw, $6800 for a 97 gst with 83,000 mainly highway miles with LOTS of mods like hks ssq bov, eibach prokit springs, tokico shocks, tanabe gmedallion exhaust, greddy profec A boost controller, act extreme pressure clutch, k&n filters, greddy turbo timer, and momo racing pedals/shift knob. Sounds good to me for all the mods but I just want all your guy's opinions =)
