Hey guys, this may be a stupid question but it has me and my buddy scratching our heads and having to down bottles of aleve to relieve headeaches....JK
The set up..
My set up:
I bought a Big16g from a buddy (im thinking USDM) and a external dumptube O2 housing. I did some minor porting on the turbo but left the wastegate alone. The wastegate on mine has no porting what so ever.

My buddy:
He bought a "JDM" engine that had the cyclone intake manifold, 515cc yellow top injectors, what we believe to be a BIG16g (cause it looks exactly like mine, impellers look the same and the inlet of the turbo are the same size) and the o2 housing.
The engine is in the machine shop and so we decided to install the big16g in his car. Low and behold we got mad boost creep. We took it off built a dump tube like mine and went ahead and ported the hell out the wastegate side as well as flapper window (?) and the turbo manifold ( took off the step)

Now, I get some boost creep (bout 2psi) but my buddy ( with equal set up as mine) get boost creep like crazy. We turned down the boost as much as we could (8psi) and when he goes WOT on 3rd gear boost reaches 10psi and stays there for bout a second then creeps up all the way to 21+psi. Any guesses?

So what do you guys think is the problem, could it be that the "jdm" turbo is different if not crappier than the usdm one?

long post.....sorry and thanks in advance

sorry forgot to mention that yes we do have the same exhaust. 3" catless exhaust and the same downpipe 2.5 to 3".

I know that evos dont have a big16g but i guess my buddy got lucky and got one with a big16g cause it looks exactly like mine. The numbers are the same...weird

anyways the question would be what else can i do to fix it besides going external.....

evo III motors come with evo III turbos which does not = big 16g

An evo 3 is a big 16g, just a bigger wheeld, lighter big 16g

ugh, don't buy a non ported turbo

Your buddy has an evo III 16g, it will appear identical to yours. Turbine housing is 2.5 inches though compared to 2.

Different creep because they are different turbos.
