We are trying to promote being grammatically correct when typing explicit.

When you see something that is vulgar, sexually repulsive or otherwise violates the posting policies then you have the option of reporting that just as easily as e-thug-Ebonics.

"This is the internet, chill out!" is a lame excuse for people's laziness and behavior. I assure you that the pro's and con's of communicating any kind of message carry just as much weight on the internet as they do in any other form of communication. If you send a threat to someone via internet then you go to jail. If you cuss someone's mother via the internet and the other person is close enough I assure you the fight will come to your doorstep just as quickly as if you said it in person. If you make a purchase via the internet then you are still just as liable for producing the item as if you wrote out the deal on paper in person.

The internet is a valuable resource the same as any other form of knowledge sharing. There are many places that do not care how you spell, use grammar or use capitalization. We DO NOT discourage those places from existing as they have the privilege the same as this site does. Do not mistake the privileges given to you there with the ones given to you here though. With every privilege comes responsibility and this site and it's moderating team will continue to promote, encourage and reward members for their help in keeping this a valuable and easy to read source information and communication.
Thanks,
Doug

I love to use proper english when it's adequate to do so. Demanding it, on the Internet, CMON! It's like going to school and if there's one bad spelling/grammer mistake YOU'RE GOING TO DIE!!!!!!!!! I used to like coming to this board and just reading the posts, this is not a good move. :notgood:

Way to put words in people's mouths AND look like a fool at the same time. If you quote where we said "you are going to die" if you don't use legible, basic, 5th grade and above English, you can be the next moderator.

I'm sure this post will help you past "Rookie" status, bud. :toobad:

Give us a few minutes...

The way I see it is, when you type a message on here and it looks nice, paragraphed well, and it's easy to read you appear to be an intelligent person and that's what I will think of you as. If you type out something that I can't make heads or tails of, then I will just ignore the post and think of you as an idiot that dropped out of high school or what have you.

You are representing yourself on here and most of us don't know you from a hole in the ground. If you don't care what we think of you, go ahead and continue to post like an idiot. If you do care, then make the extra effort to portray yourself like a decent, intelligent person. A couple extra keystrokes is not going to kill anyone. Try it, you may just like it.

I agree with you. I've always been a lurker on this site, but here's my impression.

I was never too heavily into the DSM scene, as I never had the money to modify my car as I would have liked, but for what it's worth, I am becoming disinterested in it, and one of the reasons is the quality of the posts. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of good information to be found here, but when people are too lazy to use proper grammar and spelling, it reflects poorly on the forum and poorly on the owners of these cars.

I get the general impression that the majority of the contributors to this site are fairly young, and it really shows. In fact, I plan to sell my car for this very reason. The stereotype of all DSM drivers (2g anyway) being little high school or college punks is getting old, and judging by most of the responses to this thread, I don't see that going away. I'll probably look for a 1g someday down the line to satisfy my affection for these cars, and hopefully all the e-thugs will have moved on by then.

This site is a great resource, filled with information that has been very valuable to me, but when people can't post properly or conduct themselves appropriately, it really lowers the quality of the forum and the DSM scene in general.

ive been a long time member here on dsmtuners.. not too long after they just started up.. so ive seen the changes and what not.. the moderating definitely became very strict over time.. its like one of those teachers you had in school that you knew was hard and couldn't fugk around with if you wanted to pass..

as far as my opinion on the issue..
i'm all for a clean, organized, professional msg forum.. but i feel this is over the top.. come to think of it, this may be the only forum ive been to where this kind of stuff is enforced.. i use to go on here with a chill attitude and ready to express my opinion or share my findings whether its in the hangout or DSM technical related issues.. but now i'm very hesitant because i'm afraid i might get chewed out..

with that said, i feel this will definitely discourage members, and the reputation.. but hey what can you do, rules are rules.. i understand that so you know what i do.. deal with it.. if you look at a lot of my old posts.. i am a person who REGULARLY used "u".. i ALWAYS put it that way on the internet.. this is the first place i had to change my habits.. why.. again.. because of the rules.. I've complied with them and everybody else has no choice but to do so as well..

PS.. it definitely makes you double/triple check your post before submitting it heh

Word up. :rocks:

At first I thought the strict rules were kind of annoying, but now that I've been looking at other forums I'm happy with the way it is. I like how things are organized here, I'd like to thank the mods for putting in the effort to make this site as useful as possible :thumb:

Why not make the spellcheck mandatory? If you're post is jacked up, it doesn't register until it's corrected.

"Ur" is not "you are".
There is a difference between "to" and "too".
When something is gotten rid of, it's not because you "loose" it. Something "loose" rattles. If you LOSE something, you can't find it.

And you don't want your brakes to break.

Yes, it matters here.

Ahh for years, I have dreamt of this day. Eyes pulsating from misspelt words and no punctuation in a huge one sentence moniker. Would there be a solution? Now there is. Good job.

What I don't understand is why you people think this is your site and you can behave like this is your house.

If you don't like the rules go play another game. DSMTalk, DSMetc, are both sites that don't care and those sites are horrible. We don't want amature children here, we want mature adults that are here to share knowledge while having a good time. And it's not the Moderators that are going overboard, its you guys. They never said anything about banning people who make typos, they just told you to stop acting childish and follow the rules. I know I make alot of typos, and even use slang here or there to display the attitude of a post, but not once did any the moderators get on my case. I have seen them respond to people who only, purposely type or spell wrongly for the sole purpose of making themselves look cool or are to lazy to fully spell a word.

Grow up and Get OUT!!!

Wow !!! This is awesome . Something so incredibly simple . How is it , that so many are upset ? It is a simple request , that as a guest here , we speak (type) properly . This is not an impossible thing to do . However , I do think some of this is extreme . Alot of hard working people , take what precious free time they have , to help others . That is the reason for this site . Let us not lose focus on that . If grammar lessons are in order , lets do it on a one to one basis . I appreciate every bit of help , knowledge , humor , and advice I have received here . Regardless of proper english or not . So keep the two cents and here is my dollar . :coy:  :barf: :| :talon:

yeah grammar is probably the #1 reason why i dont help some people when it comes to questions... like run on sentences, if i have to try and figure out where the sentence should end, and there are no question marks, i say the hell with it, i have an 11th grade english course under my belt, and can get the subjects and verbs to agree with each other... anyways, my biggest pet peeve is people not knowing how to use "a" and "an"... an goes before vowels and in old english, before h's... most people won't say "I have an hydrocele" <-- a sack of fluid on your testicle (i only used that one because i friend said that to me once, and i was like "uhh.. alright?")... Who and Whom is another one that kinda gets me... I don't think i have ever seen anyone use "whom" on here before... Such as the sentence "Whom are you working with tonight?" That is correct... I'm done blabbing, i actually straight up suck at grammar... but who's to judge me? haha.

No offense there, man. But your grammer sort of sucks. It's funny what you're saying about grammer is not being displayed in your post... at all. ROFL

I am.

Try using one instead of three periods, and a capital letter at the start of the next exhalation.

All it takes is an honest attempt. And one day, you may be able to make strangers think you're intelligent. Just like me. :thumb:

wow, this thread was interesting to read at work. sure passed my time. anyways personally i can say that using such things as u and ur (kinda obivious and universal in society these days) is fine with me but when it gets to bigger words the spelling has to be set straight.

I have always been pretty good about following the rules here on dsmtuners.com and I'm proud to say that. And, honestly, if there are new rules to be made about our spelling and grammer I will gladly abide by them. And, for the record, I feel like I've always been pretty good with my grammer on here. However, I do think that taking away reputation points and/or suspending people is a little over board. But on the other side of the token, I can't think of any other consequences for the problem. I think that making the spell checker mandatory is a pretty good idea but thats all I can really think of.

On a slightly happier note, I'm finding it really funny how closely I'm looking at everyone's spelling and grammer without even meaning to. :) Live long dsmtuners.com!

Boy, As being a viewer of this site for about a year and only starting to post recently. Just WOW this is just weird. But banning people for their misspelling or punctuation? Come on that's ridiculous. If you want to stop all the "U is not You", think about most of the people on this board. Most are teenagers or people in there early 20's, All are into the internet with the AIM lingo. You have to take that into account for the spelling on this board.

Now if mostly all the people were older say 30+ spelling should be A LOT better. But that's not even true now aday's. I just started college this week and there is a few older people who don't know proper grammar or English. So to punish people for them not learning it in school is just dumb.

But I do agree with typing in all CAPS or LiKe ThIs Is StUpID. Although if everyone here has proper "grammar" then they should know that "you" makes the same sound as "u" and they should know what the word is.

Either way a middle ground needs to be met in this board with posting.

-Lou

PS This was spell checked :thumb:

We don't ban people for grammar/spelling issues.

He was banned for blatantly disregarding the rules, and basically telling us to ban him.
