Twin turbo? [Merged 11-6]

there is only one thing keeping the 300zx from being awesome with a single turbo....... there is no room for it  try running your hand in between the engine and say the fender well of the car. Won't happen. You have no room in it. Twin s in a bi-turbo based car like mentioned about is the way to stay. they are a pain in the ass enough as it is just to get to them. Try swapping the turbos without getting the car in the air or pulling the engine.... again, not going to happen.

When it comes to turbo upgrades the stockers will go to about 450 with a good tune and the right fuel and that's on the stock IC. Get a nice FMIC or replacement SMIC's and you will see amazing differences all across the power band.

If your buddy wants to upgrade tell him to go with Twin GT28's. It wil retain descent spool and be good for about 600whp with the proper tuning. Makes for a MEAN street car.

I have always loved the Z32 300ZX TT and i still intend to buy one when i have the time to give one the attention it needs. Awesome cars to drive.

3000gts/stealths are twin turbocharged, and since the intercool piping meets up in the y pipe before the air enteres the tb, you can have different size turbos. so if you are getting one big one, you can just put it on and leave the other on as well...if supras and rx7s have similar set ups, they can run the same thing...

Ok, My wife has a stealth tt, and what you are saying is she can upgrade one turbo at a time instead of buying 2 turbos at once?

just to make it easier, there isnt, to my knowledge, and i have researched a lil bit, a single turbo conversion for the 300zx TT. just my 2c

there is one single kit out there but it's a hideous mess. You have to move the battery to the back and the turbo gets placed in some weird angle that just dooms it to failure. i have some pics i'll upload real quick to show what a single setup on a 3kgt looks like.

**EDIT**

Here is a couple pics of a 3kgt single setup. Use your imagination to figure out how well it worked. ;)

The reason supra/fd guys go single is for one reason and one reason alone: cost. Twins will produce more power with less spool time, everytime. But buying 2 1300 dollar turbos isn't cheap, to say the least -- when you can just run a big single for 1/2 the price and get the same power.

Look at any of the fast supras in Japan, they pretty much all run HKS twin kits.

Ya its pretty stupid but would be cool as hell if it were true. A v6 twin turbo stock eclipse. As the story goes from the storyteller at work:
" In canada (and aparently other countries besides the u.s.) mitsubishi released a v6 version eclipse and it was twin turbo"

Ya right, anyone else hear of this, i didnt some research and found nothing....maybe it looked like an eclipse but had the vr4 motor in it??

who knows, sounds like a moron comment but you never know

can you get a twin turbo system for a 90 Laser RS turbo, i wondering cuz my friend got a 02 Mustang GT and i gotta beat him i kno i can make power else where but u can beat the look when u tell ppl u got a twin turbo under the hood

No they don't. Mod your car right, get some slicks you could beat him. You could beat him on street tires also if he is stock. If he isn't it will be tough with fwd without slicks.

i don't think there would be a point to running two turbos on a 4 banger. i have never seen it. you wouold have to get 2 custom two exhaust port manifold and flanges. and then you would need to find room to put the two turbos under the hood. the super fast supra,s and rx7's run a single turbo most of the time anyway. kinda a silly question but there ya go.

well i wus wondering this because since the 3000gts had a couple years where they had twin turbos in them so i didnt kno

Actually all the stealth or 3000gt came with twin turbo, unless they were n/a. Either way they had 6 cylinders, like a Supra, and a whole different setup. Kind of comparing way different cars there. Either way, there is not tt kit, but that doesn't mean you can't beat your friend. I spank my friend who has a 01 GT with nitrous, he also had a sc (no nitrous) and both times I spanked him. Do your research on this site, search for setups and mod it up. You can run 12's easy with a fwd, with or without slicks up to you. But search and do it the right way. :thumb:

its all bout the $$$, i added the stage one stuff and it come up to 1300 and i am planning on gettin a bigger turbo and selling the factory one 2

Well if your on a tight budget search the dsmtrader.com for deals on used parts. Check out the vendors on the first page, cheap parts are bad, but cheap prices for quality parts you should look for. The trader has a lot of stuff too like injectors, turbo so forth. As for exhaust, check out the tubing kits here, you can get a full 3" exhaust for about 300 or under since you have fwd. http://www.vrsexhaust.com/TUBING_KITS/MITSUBISHI_TK/mitsubishi_tk.html That should get you on your way, new turbo, injectors, exhaust, fuel pump plus free mods I could see you easily beating that mustang and being close or under 1300 dollars.

If you do your supporting modifications correct, you can get decent times out of that stock turbo. Nate Chrisman of Diamond Star Motorsports was able to hit 11's with his shop Talon with the stock turbo.

You can go pretty far with the stock turbo if you put the porting tool to the exhaust manifold, exhaust housing on the turbo and to the O2 housing. Free those three items up along with a full exhaust and you'll see quite an improvement in your top end speeds.

To get 2 turbos to spool the same as 1 bigger one you would have to have 2 tini turbos. 2 small turbines would add a lot more back pressure where 1 large would decrease it. Benifit, single.

Also larger compressors are usually more efficient (looking at an efficiency map) over a larger range of airflow than smaller compressors. Benifit, single.

Their is no reason to have more than 1 turbo unless you have a V type or Horizontally opposed engine. Why do you think most of the big power supra guys go with Singles.

Im not going to discuss how to make more power because their are enough faq's about the basics. :)

on the viper, theyve made a lot nicer cars now, they have the 1000tt, (guess how much hp that has...) check it at http://www.hennesseyperformance.com/hennesseyperformance/index.php
on the ultima, yes its fast, but its just like a motorcycle pretty much, an engine, wheels and suspension, practically nothing else...its fast tho....
the me 412 is a quad turbocharged (the 4) v12(the 12) that uses a merc'er engine that was going to be produced at a rate of about 300 a year until merc'er found out it was faster than anything they produced and they couldnt make anything faster and said that chrylser couldnt use their engine....o well
the s7 is said to drive upside down at 160 mph,... with two turbos on it i bet it can get up to that speed easily enof...LOL....

some of this might be wrong, but who knows...
