Twin turbo? [Merged 11-6]

Thanks for all the good feedback. I've mulled it around in my head, and decided that a twin turbo is a really cool idea, and the way I planned on making the header would allow for equal exhaust to both turbo's, but I'm just going to get a hahn super 25g-h (http://www.hahnracecraft.com/hahn/parts/s25g.htm) and call it a day.

1. Twin turbos in general aren't a good idea, and they are an especially shitty idea on a 4 cylinder. You gain absolutely nothing, and you lose a whole lot. I would explain why, but I already have 100 times, so you should:

2. Search before you post. I just searched for threads titled "twin turbo" and look at how much shit I found:

3. Hahn turbos generally suck, and the Super-25g sucks a lot. There are way better options avaliable.

Well, then, if they suck so much, what kind of turbo would you reccomend? I just happened to like that turbo because of the 10cm housing as opposed to 7cm on virtually every other 'big' turbo I've seen....

there was a twin turbo civic at a local show recently... didnt get to see it run though.

you know most of the fast ass supras and rx-7s have been made into single turbos right?

why would anyone do that? twin turbo just sounds so cool!

single big turbos work better than two small ones or two big ones. if you need more cfm get a semi turbo

I agree that hahn turbos suck. I know a guy with a hahn big16g or something like that and it's not that powerful at all. You can get much better turbos for the same price as a hahn turbo and just the fact that the housing is bigger doesn't mean it automatically makes more power. There's more to it then that. What are your goals and how much do you want to spend?

Oh .. what good is a 10cm housing going to be if your exhaust manifold is only 7 cm max?

x3 on hahn turbos sucking.

I had a Super16g and hated that damn thing. The 10cm^2 hosuing is garbage! You lose tons of spoolup, and the payoff isnt even worth it.

All a super 16g is, is a small 16g compressor housing/wheel with a bigger turbine housing. I ended up taking a good ol 6cm^2 housing from a 14b and converting that poor turbo back.

Why on earth would you want a 10cm^2 housing?

I can only think of 2 reasons (you have a nonturbo car, with higher compression..therefore you dont want all that downlow torque in the powerband to blow things up)

or 2.

you have a FWD, and slow spoolup helps keep tire spin to a minimum.

I suppose you are under the impression that bigger is better right?

Turbo spool is a direct derivative of flow vs velocity. Open the housing that big kills all velocity for the amount of flow a 2.0 liter can deliver at lower RPM's. Unless you use some sort of twin scroll setup as in the Evo 8's.

I'm also thinking about a twin turbo but I guess it sounds like a bad idea. My mechanic told me he can do it but it would only give me twice as many problems as I have now. He suggested to just go with a bigger turbo like a BIG 16G or a T28, but then I would have have to put in some good money to make it spool up faster. Please tell me how it works out for you if you do decide to put in the twins.

my buddy is twining his civic. He has a nice set up. I really don't see the point but hay he bought a civic and I don't see the point in that.

Can anyone tell me if they ever made a twin turbo Eclipse Spyder in 1996??? Someone told me they test drove like 3 of them and it didn't seem right. I didn't tell her they were never made b/c I didn't know 100% for sure and wanted to ask some of you guys before making an ass of myself. So if I'm wrong and they DO infact make them, someone please inform me. Thanks! :dsm: :thumb:

LOL, most-bull shit-EVER! There was never any convertable 1st gens made, only the 2nd gens.

Sorry bout the 1g thing in the title, its a habbit for me to put that everytime I write a thread, but the Eclipse is a 2g, However I have NEVER heard of them making a twin turbo version! And she told me shes never seen one that NOT twin turbo. If I'm not mistaken the 2g's are 4 cylenders, and you just cant put twin T's on a 4 cylender w/out a crap load of mechanical skills! Am I correct?

I kinda hinted to her that she was full of crap...but she was persistant that she drove a twin T Eclipse Spyder! LOL Shes a redneck girl who only likes boys with Ford pickup trucks and she nows jack about imports....nothin against the trucks...but not my style.
man its good to be right!!!!! :dsm: :thumb:

She's thinking of the 3000GT- which is slick enough on its own. I'd put up with the flaws to own one.

Next time she's jacking off, you might point out that DSMs are domestics, fresh from Illinois.

But how is this "Tuning Talk"?

It's really your sister, isn't it.

1. no twin turbo spyder eclipses.

2. due to the relative rareness and exclusivity of the uber-rare 3000 gt vr-4 Spyder i highly doubt she drove one of those either.

3. most likely some idiot salesman (even though i am one it doesn't mean we're all geniuses) told her it was twin turbo even though it wasn't. hell i had the manager at a local mitsubishi dealership telling me how he ran his 1g awd up to 90 in second gear while racing a musclecar back in the day. i almost pimpslapped him right in the middle of his own showroom.
