Toronto,
I just picked up my Turbonetics wastegate. I see there is too fittings for a hose, (1 on the top and other on the side) just wanted to know what hole/fitting do i use for a MBC?

The bottom nipple is used for the Boost controller and the top is for a vaccum line from the intake manifold. If you do not hook it to a vaccum line you may have a boost leak if the spring gives way.

wait. for a manual boost controller, you hook up up the bottom one to the boost controller as shown in the picture and you hook up the other one to a vacuum source? I asked because my friends is hooked up with the bottom line with the boost controller then the other line is blocked off. is this why we are haveing problems making boost?

The bottom is used for a mbc. Both are used if you are using an ebc. This is what the instructions said that came with my Turbonetics evolution external gate.

What I just said is right. So you have it hooked up right.

ok. my friend has a manual turbo XS boost controller, but we are just trying to get the car to run right. so if we hook up one vacuum line from the j pipe to the bottom wastegate line, what kind of boost should it make? I dont know what kind of spring it has in it.

If you do that it should open at whatever the spring pressure is. I would just try it to see what kind of spring is in it by hooking it up like that. Its safer than having a boost controller hooked up.

Unless the T'netics is a completely different internal WG design compared to the others on the market (which I highly doubt) this is not the correct way to hook up a MBC & is a good way to prevent the WG from opening under boost. With a MBC you hook up the bottom port or side port (the port that is under the diaphragm) & leave the top port vented to atmosphere (don't cap this port like someone did above). The top chamber of the WG should be a sealed chamber & you won't have a boost leak if you don't hook up a vacuum line & the spring should have nothing to do with this.

As was said, if you hook a pressure source line directly to the WG you will hit whatever boost the WG spring is.

interesting. just to let you know, the previous owner of the car said that all my friend needed was a new wastegate. My friend kept the car in his garage after he relized the car ran horrible. The car stayed there for 2 years. Now I am helping out, we found out it had a blown Xs power turbo and big boost leaks. Now there is a rebuilt garrett t3 on the car. Have the turbonetics wastegates known to go bad?
I am confused on what you just typed. so plug the vacuum nipple on the wastegate that is not used or dont plug it?

Leave the top one open or put in a fitting that has a mesh screen on the one end. My Turbonetics wastegate came with some of those fittings. The wastegate being vented to the atmosphere is perfectly fine.

Sorry, after I re-read my post I can see where it might be confussing. When I was talking about the top chamber being sealed I was just refering that the chamber should be sealed (if the diaphragm is good) from the pressure in the lower chamber & that leaving the top open won't cause a boost leak, as someone posted above.

With a MBC, connect the pressure source to the pressure chamber under the diaphragm which will be the side or the lower port depending on the WG & then leave the top port vented to atmoshere.

does it even need a nipple or can I just take the nipple or plug completely out?

You can just take it off and leave the hole open. I would try to find one of the fittings that has like a mesh screen on the outside end so nothing will get into it.
