So I went out to finally install my evo3 16g the other night. I screwed three of the bolts in through the manifold with no problem, but when I got to the last one it only went in about half a turn. Pulled the turbo back out and found out that the turbo had been crossthreaded. I didn't think of checking the threads before I installed it.
The bolts are brand new and I tested at least 4 different bolts on the same one with the same result. If you looking down at the turbo in the engine bay its the upper right manifold to turbo bolt.
I was told that I would have to have it taken to a machine shop to get the threads re-tapped, but not a single shop around me is willing to do it. I have a craftsman tap and die kit and have been tempted to try it. What do you guys think I should do?
