If you could please take a look at this Evo III 16G and tell me what you guys think and what may have caused this to happen. I bought it used and was informed that it was in working order when it was taken off of the car. A shop told me one thing and now i am looking for your input. Thanks

That turbo injested something fairly large. I wouldn't even bother installing it. I hope you got a good deal on it because you have two options: 1) rebuild turbo or 2) scrap it and buy a NEW one or a used one that you can inspect before you purchase it.

I'm sorry im asking all of these questions but how much do you think that it would cost to get this fixed?

Factor,

Find out exactly what type of compressor wheel it is (i.e. Big16g or EVO III 16g)
by getting the serial number off the compressor housing and giving it to your
turbo vender. Next try and grab the compressor shaft nut and pull side to side. If you can pull side to side a little without the wheel touching the compressor housing and the shaft spins smoothly without any force then you "might" be able to just replace the compressor wheel. This will probably guarantee that the
turbo won't be dynamically balanced though. Forced Performance has the 16g wheels for sale separately ($100-$180). If you need to replace the CHRA then that might around $350 or so . Again, you should pull the compressor housing
off the turbo and check for any gouging, if not then you can just pull the
compressor housing off, securely hold the turbine wheel and then use a
T-handle with socket and unscrew the compressor wheel. If you have
it rebuilt professionaly, the rebuild cost plus the cost of the compressor wheel would be up over $500, might as well by a new turbo in that case.

Good luck.

Thank you for all of these responses. I was just wandering how could you tell that it is not an Evo 3? When I looked at it I thought the same thing and the seller told me that all of the 14b-16g's all had the same housings and that the only thing that was different were the insides. Then after we unwrapped the turbo and started looking at the cold side that I started to get mad. The seller only sent me the last 4 pics that I posted. The pic with all of the bent fins was the pic that I had taken when it came. I took it to a shop and they said they could have it like brand new for $400. So I contacted the seller and I think we can resolve this problem and I get my money back. Thank you for all your help. By the way I spent $400 shipped on this turbo.

That looks like a small 16g to me.

wow man you got ripped. Find the guy and kick his a$$. As stated before .. how bad is the shaft play? If you get lucky you can get away with just buying a new compressor wheel, however I wouldn't count on it.

The shaft play is about 30-40 thousandths. What makes the turbo look like a small 16? Any explanation would be greatly appricated. Thanks

My small 16G has 5200 stamped on the comp housing, that one does not.

my old small 16g did not have 5200 anywhere on it. It had the exact same compressor housing as a 14b does, which also has (you guessed it) no 5200.

to help you out getting running, i have a used 14b off my jdm i'm selling if you are interested pm me. blades are perfect and there is absolutely zero shaft play on it.

Then you did not have a 16G. You had a 14B compresssor with a 16G wheel.

The inlet and outlet are a larger diameter on the 16G comp housing, as it obviously flows a bit more air.

first pic, you can barely see the 5200 (16G), second pic you can see that the number is Totally different (14B).

third and fourth pic, 16G comp housing is on the left, 14b is on the right. Inlet and outlet are noticeably bigger.

But the 14B and the 16G have the same comp housing, right? How can that be?! OMG :p

Right its the same housing, one's just modified.

I am running an EVO III from Buschur racing that has around 500 miles on it. Ported by Buschur I have the receipt. I will sell it for $500. and pay for the shipping. I've got my eye on something else! This turbo ported is at least $610. plus shipping. I also have the credentials to back up my character selling parts. Go to www.starquestclub.com and check out marksweet on the feedback forum. Man $400.? I have one that is about as close to new as you can get for $500! Mark

Don't even bother paying 400 for a rebuild. Just get your money back, and buya brand new one for 575 dollars.
