Turbo need balanced after housing removal???

just wondering if i would need to have my 14b balanced if i just removed the housings? i had a seized 14b layin around w/ good housings, so i took them off, ported them and was gonna just swap them onto a good 14b center section. thanks

If the wheels were never separated from the CHRA, no need to balance it.

Exactly. As long as you didn't alter the algnment of the shaft and wheels it won't need rebalanced. You can take them apart as long as you mark there orientation and put them back in the same place.

I took my 14b's turbine housing off many times, either to inspect it after I got it, to clean up the housing, or to port it. It'll be fine as long as you don't lose that little pin that keeps the housing aligned with the center section.

For that matter, if you loose the little pin it isn't the end of the world. I just machined a new pin two nights ago after losing mine while porting the turbine housing. I just took the shaft of a toasted grinding wheel, stuck it in my Dremel and spun it against a metal file until it fit the hole and then cut it to length. Took maybe five minutes.

Off topic a little bit but can you remove the locater pin so you can clock the housing? If you could clock the 14b on a 2g it would help in the routing of a fmic. I was thinking of atempting this but would like someone with expierence to chime in.
