turbo miata vs. dsm

I have a 92 eagle talon, lightly modded, greddy bov,all gauges, clutch, 255lph pump, 550cc blitz ingectors,apc head studds, evo exhaust header, im also getting a mega squirt fuel management system from my brother(he's building it for his civic and my dsm). Well anyways a guy at my track wants to race(drag). He has a 93 mazda miata that he just put a turbo charger, not sure what the turbo is, but I know he runs about 8-13 pounds on it. I was wondering if yall think I could win against him. I run about 15-18 pounds, but he has alot lighter of a car and he's also a pro-street driver, and I just started driving the car so im not sure how i will do, I have my launch's down good but he's a very good driver.
o also we will be running a 1/8 mile track.

What kind of power is he putting down ? try racing him from a stop, your AWD will help you alot.

Unfortunately it won't help for very long, if at all. If he's running slicks, just say no. He's got 1000 or so less pounds to move around than you do, plus RWD. Miata's stock don't run that fast, but put any turbo on them, and they'll fly. I was this close to getting a turbo for my Miata, but decided to go DSM after driving one. I love turbo's and speed, what can I say. :D

If he's running 12psi, it probably a Flyin Miata turbo kit. Those kits raise the power from around 130hp to 260hp. OMG

Well their is a mazda miata here in the toronto area who does run in pro street (which I will be to) :cry: aahhhhhh my wallet hurts,,, but any ways .

See because they (miatas) are so light and nimble the car can go,and go fast. Their only weak points are their high compression ratio's and cv's/transaxles and shafts. Put enough power down and they will keep breaking.

To my knowledge this said indavidual is overcoming this by installing mazda rx7 components (cv's/shafts/axles), well long story short dsm's CAN beat them but If you are'nt racing pro street you'rself I'd let some one else take his challenge. :thumb: :talon: :dsm:

Of course the miata will win , because his DSM is lightly modified. 260HP is no joke on a car that light , probaly low 13s right there for the Miata.
 
This race will be at a 1/4 mile track not a 1/8th mile track. Well today I found out he's running a greddy t25 turbo and only pushing about 6psi on street tires. right now he has the stock exhaust and stock injectors. I saw the car run it takes off pretty good but has some major wheels spin. he ran a 13.6 last night at test and tune at my track. I got the mega squirt( stand alone fuel management system) in my car and put the new injectors in last night and ran a 13.4 at 18psi on my best run. I still think the car is running a little rich, im going to go back to the track tonight and do some more pass's and try to get the car running better. Well to me I think I have a chance if I race him soon since he's still learning the car, but Im pretty sure once he knows the car then im screwed. But we will see friday night.
 
Judging by the track times you will win , just nail a good launch and hope he spins like crazy and you got it in the bag.
 
Race's tonight kinda worried because now he wants to bet some money on the race but im not sure. I dont think im running to good with only a 13.4sec. is that good, yall know what I ahve so and im running 18psi so shouldnt I be able to get a little more out of it?

Whatever you do, dont go from a roll.
 
Im going to give you a little tip , when racing put some race gas in with you'r normal gas , this will bring the knock down and you'r psi up a little. Always befor any type of race do a tune up on you'r car so it will always run at it's peak.:thumb: :talon: :dsm: :talon:
 
Update, I raced him. It was probable the closest race i've ever been in. I checked the car all around did some tweaking on the injectors and fuel pump. Made sure it was running at a good 16psi, I turned down the boast just to be safe not to break something. I also put about a gallon of race fuel in about a half tank of premium unleaded gas. well ne ways the race he did his burn out trying to be cool while I worked on my launch's then we staged. he red lighted the first race but we went for a nother. This race we both took off bout same time I got a major jump on him then about half track he comes up on me pretty good, I realy get on it and stay ahead of him all the way. I only won by about a car length. I ran a 13.1sec witch is my best time. I would get yall a picture of my time slip if I could get it loaded to the computer. Well thanks guys and this was a fun weekend for me. Oh and he wants a rematch in two weeks. But I think i will decline inless i get my new intake manifold and header.
 
yeah He's getting a bigger turbo I think, so am I, im going with a 20g and then get a venom intake manifold, exhaust manifold(not sure witch one yet) and also a bigger innercoler.

Close , but you came out on top, where you holding him towards the end or was he pulling you ?
 
He was pulling on me but I guess his gears topped out and we leaved out with him behind me. I think if he gets different gears he can probable spank me good. But today I recieved my new intercooler, dont know name just got my brother to buy it from me. and I also got my new evo IV(?) exhaust manifold. I'll get more details for you later when I ask him what he did get me. I gave him the money and told him to get good but cheap parts so this is what he came back with. :thumb:
