As some of you may remember, I posted some info on using a silvia turbo a while back.
I've scrapped that idea and am going to piece together a kit based off of the "less than $1000" thread. I've just got some basic info. This is all the stuff I plan on getting for my winter build. I will be using a BOV from my 1g.

Ebay:
FMIC:200.00 shipped
T3 Turbo:150.00 shipped
Oil Line Kit: 112.00 shipped
FPR: 38.00 shipped
38mm Wastegate: 93.00 shipped

CI:
Air/Fuel ratio gauge: 40.00+ship
Boost Guage: 40.00+ship
TurboTime+Harness: 108.00+ship
Walbro: 100.00+ship
Missing Link: 60.00+ship
o2 Sim: 50.00+ship(have high flow cat throwing downstream 02)
MBC: 15.00+ship

Treadstone:
Dump&Downtube: 200.00+ship

Total: 1281.00+shipping

My questions are: With as fresh into a turbo sytem as I am, and considering I'm only putting 8lbs of boost on her, should I get a wideband instead of just and air/fuel gauge? Can any one spot anything that I might be able to get for cheaper?
And, will the AFX ecu work in conjunction with a missing link?
Thanks much in advance for any info, pos. or neg.
I left out brand names for a reason.

For 8psi, you won't need an FPR, you'd want a 12:1 FMU.

The Walbro 255hp can be had for 90+shipping. I would keep shopping around for that.

Missing Link works OK, until the filter clogs. Replacement filters are in most peoples pocket, (cigarette filter) though. Most of us prefer to go the solid-state route, with the FCD. Price is comparable - see SymTech Labs. But as long as you have a ML or FCD, you'll be alright.

Modern turbo's don't generally require a TT for longevity, but it never hurts.

While I will admit, a narrowband display is better than no display, it is still nearly useless. A wideband will be preferred. Now that I've said that, you won't really need either when your running the basic 255hp+Stock Injectors+12:1 FMU combo, as it has been proven to work and has no adjustability.

Don't forget the turbo manifold.

The AFX ECU has been known to work with boost, but I wouldn't trust it on a factory bottom end and untuned setup.

A lot of these things can be bought cheaper or name brand from this site or 2gnt.com. There are people all the time selling turbo parts. Although there arent quite as many options/choices as the 4g63 so you may need to look harder.

I am in almost the exact position you are just a little further along meaning I already have most of my parts but still waiting on a few more. I have seen a few fuel pumps for $50-70 on here. The FCD I got for $32 shipped. I have been shopping for a while now so I just waited till I found what I wanted for a good price.

This way you can save your money on a few of those parts and then either save money for your pocket or invest in something bigger or better or just something you want to have. As Locke said, a wideband isnt necessary since you cant really tune anything using an FMU, stock injectors, etc. but it is something that if you want to upgrade internals and run more boost later, you already have it and wouldnt need to replace unlike the previous.

I have my list with prices so far in a txt file if you want to see it but you are on the right track.

Skip the narrowband sensor and the Turbo Timer. Saves $150 and they really aren't useful.

Make sure to check out that ebay turbo thoroughly before you run it and it should be fine.

You should be able to build your own o2 simulator for cheap ( $5-10) look around this site, but Im pretty sure no down stream o2 sensor has no effect on performance. You just get a code, but maybe you have to pass inspection or something there. I don't up here so I just leave the code.

I had done a little reading on the FCD compared to the missing link. The main reason I wanted to go with ML is it's ease of installation. I used to do car stero installations and Hate, again, Hate wiring anymore. Not that I can't, I just HATE it. And I'm a smoker too so filters for the ML aren't a problem. Would it be beneficial to go with some bigger injectors maybe some 450cc? And a wideband for beter tuning capability? I think with a wideband and bigger injectors and the AFX I might have better tuning capability than the usual 255lph+Stock Injectors+12:1 FMU combo. I've already got a wideband o2 sensor from a friend's old setup. Appreciate the help guys! Anything to save a buck for my 2yr old's tuition. And I've already got a cast manifold on the way for 75 shipped through a member here. And no emmisions here in good ol' Indiana. Indianappolis would get pissed!

If you go with bigger injectors you need a way to control them.
Im using a sfmu, I like it for now. Its simple, quick and realitivly cheap compared to stuff like Megasquirt.
Once you go with bigger injectors you should definatley get that wideband though.

An SFMU really isn't much cheaper than MS, megasquirt just has a much greater learning curve.

I was basically saying adding that along with the usual setup would give me better options.

you'd get more options from an sfmu than an afx ecu

So I've got an update for anyone who's interested. I've acquired another 2g (95 RS) and i plan on going NA with it but for my 98, here's what I have so far:
eBay turbo t3/t4 50 trim
Tial 38mm Wastegate
Tial 38mm BOV
FMIC with pipes
Oil Lines
Boost Guage
Turbo Timer
In-Cabin MBC
Jeep TB bored to 60mm
intake manifold ported to 60mm and port/polished

I plan on getting:
Aeromotive AFPR
Walbro
Built Stoker 2.2 Bottom end
OBX Ram Horn Turbo Manifold(I have no PS or AC)
AEM Wideband
EGT
Yellow-top EVO injectors (510cc)
PnP MSnS
Built Indy head 1mm over with Crane turbo grind cams
AEM adj. cam gears
Missing Link

With the PnP, the bigger injectors, adjustable cam gears, egt, and wideband I think i'll have a pretty endless tuning capability. I'm just wondering what's safe, boost wise, at that point? When will the bottom end pop under those loads? Any Ideas? I know that the injectors can only handle so much...
Keep in mind that i'm just going for a mean DD with the capability of turning it up about 30% for the track.

I would get some bigger injectors if you are going all-out on the rest of the fuel system. Those small 510cc ones will run out of steam fairly quick once you start upping the boost.

i would get a wideband anyway ### thats the best thing you could ever have but one think i wanna tell you about downpipe from treadstone... that it till now fit besides the flange and EGT housing.. the pipe does straight down and hits the AC.... when i got it the shop just cut the top half and weld the angled pipe to it

i can take a pic for you so you can see how they did it

x2 Although an FYI OP, evo injectors are 560cc's not 510.

Since you are going to run an e-bay turbo, MAKE SURE YOU USE AN OIL RESTRICTOR ON THE FEED SIDE. I ran an e-bay turbo for about 2 1/2 yrs, 1st year at was @ 8 psi and 16-17 psi after that.

UPDATE!
I've done it over the winter time! I turbo'd my ride and he's sitting happy at 5lbs of boost! I'll be doing an update with some pics and links to where some video is, soon. I ended up going with a .50 A/R T3/T4 and it hits full spool at 2500rpm. I'll be at muncie once or twice before the shootout to see what he can do. Look at my profile to see the specs. I've been busy!

Glad to see it, I hope you're happy with the gains so far.

Now you need to update your vehicle info (you're w/t Turbo now) and your sig. ;)
