I don't want to get off topic, but I disagree. There's no point in purchasing an entire FMIC kit unless you want to spend needless $$$ on shiny pipes. Although i must admit Turbo Shogun went a little overboard on saving money :tease: LOL

No leaks so far, even at 21 PSI off the ol' 14B. ;)

Actually you're correct. It will be the same. That's the main reason why I want to move onto one of these larger cores so I can utilize the same pipes/couplers that I already have. I'm quite tired of seeing 128* intake temps

If both IC pipes go through next to the radiator it is close than the one you have drawn out...

my fmic setup on my 94 dsm did that very very short piping, i think we counted like 4-5 feet or something stupid low like that

Tom, I'm confused.

So are you looking for a core like the one you drew or another top/bottom flow like what you have since you said that you wanted to be able to reuse the piping that you already had.

The only reason I ask is because I too am looking for a core big enough for my 50 trim but has the same side inlet/outlet.

Anson

no.. my existing core is 20" x 6" x 3". apparently it is not large enough (or efficient) to cool down my setup, so I am looking for a replacement IC that is both larger and at the same time switch to a side-to-side IC. If I use a core like the dejon one, I can just use my existing LICP and just switch it to the driver's side instead of the passenger side like it is now. get it ? :thumb: If you want a top/down like mine, be sure to get a 24" core or something of that size, but you can't go short route through the radiator bracket, you will have to go with a traditional stock route piping.

Yea thats what I was saying when I posted the link for the one-sided e-bay fmic's.

 And I spent $400 on my 16.5x6x3. I'll be running a B16G at around 18-20 PSI, too. You're running what (I think?) is a 50-trim at the same amount of boost and yours isn't cutting (or cooling it) anymore?

I suppose there's a bunch of cheap intercoolers on eBay (albeit side-to-side flow) that are a bit bigger (and cheaper too). Why I paid $400 for mine, I don't know, but I'd gladly let someone put a boot to my head because of it. :toobad:

Turbo Shogun. Thats really ghetto! LOL :p

A true short route piping in my opinion would be if you get a Air to liquid Intercooler.
Relocate the battery to the trunk
Place the air to liquid intercooler around where the battery was located and have the intercooler already connected to the TB so no more upper ic pipe :thumb: then for the other connection have one solid pipe going down to the turbo. :rocks:

Mine is the shortest you can get w/ a side to side. Air to liquid is definitely great....but not for the street as it is high maintenance.

Or you could buy the short route piping going on ebay for around $120ish, then buy a high quality core for ~ $300. There you go, custom made short route piping for $420ish instead of ghetto rigging it all.

Whats a good seller on eBay to look for some? I'm looking for ~500hp through a 3065 or gt35r when I'm done. I figure as long as its a good bar + plate, it should hold. I'm looking for a 30"x12"x3", or something that fills the whole front of the 2gb front bumper.

Something(IC) that fills the whole 2G bumper = no airflow to radiator. 2Gs are notorious for lack of airflow to the radiator. This of course will lead to many other problems. Don't make the mistake of buying a big IC. Bigger is not better. Research and experience will change for whole view. Good Luck.

Gonna disagree here also. I know many 2g owners that have a full bumper FMIC, stock radiator, and only 1 slim fan, w/ no overheating issues at all even in hot DD trafic.

Yea, that's weird too. For some odd reason, I've seen overheating only at highway speeds. You guys must think I'm kidding but I'm not. Not just one car, but many others as well. No problems driving through the city thoughWTF . Just my experience and many others too.

Why do you guys even bother about short piping, how the IC looks like, which one flows better. Its simple as it could be put tthe pipes where is easier for you , take the IC, blow air thru (just to make sure there is no holes in it and is it pluged). put it in front. For the IC get one from the ebay for $200, have fun building your own piping (dont even bother getting them to be all aluminum).

I think you guys are missing the whole point to this upgrade. Currently (last summer) the intercooler does not cool as well as I had hoped. It was perfect for my 16G @ 20 psi, but I fear 21psi for the 50 trim is pushing it. That is why I am looking to upgrade my FMIC so that it can cool down my intake temps. The whole purpose is not for bling bling y0 cores, nor an arguement for side/side or top/bottom flow. It is plain and simple, I'd like to go bigger because I KNOW this is an upgrade I need. I've done a lot of research and have dealt with a lot of different intercoolers to know when it's time to step up.

p.s., I have 2 slimlines so cooling will not be a problem :thumb:

That's what all my honda friends tell me. You get what you pay for. Although there are some good ebay deals...

I got the kit to run Blow-Thru, needless to say there probably were less expensive ways of going about it, but that would mean I'd have + net worth...and I just can't have that.
Even though the shiny pipes did give me between 25-30hp...;)
