Transmission Troubles

OK got a question for you guys...when i bought my car i had to rev the engine up alil bit to shift into 3rd gear or it would grind really bad...sometimes i could get it into gear w/o reving...SOMETIMES. Now it wont go into third AT ALL, no matter what i do. 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th shift flawlessly but it wont go into 3rd at all. anyone know what could be wrong?

I wonder if the linkage might be out of a adjustment? Although I think that usually affects at least 2 gears, it might be worth looking into that.

At least you could get by revving 2nd a little higher or luggin 4th a bit.

When was the clutch last replaced?

Synchro's worn out. Drain your fluid and see what it looks like. Should have some brass shavings or sparkly.

If it's linkage problem would exhibit even with car not running.

Sounds like you just lost your #rd gear syncros. Agreed tho drain your fluid and check for flake or sparkles.
