ok heres the deal... I have a 1993 talon AWD and i have bought a JDM gvr4 trans (the ones that are swithcable from fwd to awd...) so that means it is off of a 90 galant.. and it has the correct final gear... but the linkage is different from a 90 to 91+ im told... I have heard about drilling a hole an inch in on the one lever that lays paralel to the ground.
I have attach a photo of the arm i am talking about (showing where to drill it)
will that work?

My assessment: It appears from your posts, that the JDM trans has the same brackets as the USDM trans(shifter bracket and levers). Installing the 90 JDM trans( with shorter lever) and using the 93 shifter (in car) will give it a shorter throw. Given you don't have the remaing pieces of the cable bracket for the 90 trans, i'd just use the 93. IT really doesn't matter which you use. The 93 trans bracket just holds the cables at a different angle to allow better articulation for the longer 91+ trans lever.

Just note: Now that the tranny will go into gear sooner, you are no longer using the 'stops' that are built into the shifter for overslam conditions. The ultimate stop will be the trans now, not the shifter. SO, be careful on slamming it into gear. You may break a shift fork.

To change to a 1990 system you need...

1)Shifter (90 is different)
2)Shifter Cables(different again)
3)90 Shifter cable bracket(bolts to trans)
4)90 Trans of course.

Believe me I changed from a 90 to a 92 trans on my 90 and had tons of fun finding all of this info out.

i heard that is only going from a 90 TO a 91+ that you need everything. not going from 91+ to 90......
is there anyone who did a 91+ car with a 90 trans? im sure there is some booping around in here, cmon dont be shy! ;)

Project_ES, gravityforce, and PogiTSI have all put a 90 trans in their 91+ car. PogiTSI was the most recent. PM them, I'm sure they'd give you some feedback.

The setup you have with either the 90 or 93 trans/cable bracket will work. Like you stated, you can use the 90 bracket as long as you have the entire bracket. ( you only showed the part that was bolted to the trans. The part that holds the cables and bolts to that was gone. You don't want to mix/match thosebrackets. ie. 90 lower half and 93 upper)

In the end, the overall throw of the lever inside of the car will be shorter.

I was told that you can just cut some off of the cable studs inside the car and then adjust it as needed to get it into gear. My car now, i just put the 90 jdm in it and i can't go into any gears in the fwd position (1st, 3rd, 5th) because the cable is too long. Lordpaxin told me this information, I looked at it and it seems like it will work. I think he's done it two times on his cars.

ok all you will have to do if your putting a 90 trans in a 91-94 is just swap the braket that holds the cables with the too bolts... that will make it more horizantal... .thats all i did and my trans works perfect. i have a 93 tsi and a 90 jdm fwd/awd trans
