Transmission issues in 1G talon tsi

Hi, im very new to the dsm world. This is the first i have ever owned. i have been building hondas for about 5 years now and i wanna move on to something new. I just purchased a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD. As u can see by my mods list it has a few things done but still basically stock. The car has 200,000 on the original tranny and it seems that the syncros are shot in 2nd gear only. If u shift nicely at low rpm's no grind. Anything over 5 psi and it grinds hard all the way in unless u shift just right. My major issue is that unless im under 2K rpms i cant downshift into second at all it just bounces back out. I plan to keep the car performance wise as she sits now, with exception of a few bolt ons. My question is can i just have it rebuilt back to stock or do i need to performance build it and how should i go about this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

would the stage 1 rebuild be enough for what im looking for i dont have plans of ever pushing over 400hp if ven close to that. Im sitting at 260 hp right now and very happy with it. should i get a new transaxle from them also. Like i said earlier i have never worked on mitsubishis before especially not awd ones. If this was a honda i would have no probs. But like i said this interest for dsm came outta no where and im enjoying it

Stage 1 is just fine. Any by new transaxle, I'm assuming you mean axles? This isn't a Honda. The front axles don't snap. The rear ones one do, somewhere around the 400whp mark. Upgrade the rear end/axles to a 92-94 unit, and you will be fine. It's called a 4 bolt rear end upgrade.

how much does that conversion cost and is the skill level fairly easy. and yes i agree my hondas constantly snap axles unless u get some from the Driveshaft Shop, but i still had issues.

Complete rear end swap usually costs about $300-450 depending on seller. Make sure you get the rear pumpkin, both axles, and the axle cups. I've got a complete rear end for sale if you are interested. $300 + shipping

Need a good set of hand tools and a jack. Other than that, its not difficult at all.

So I recently purchased a 1990 eagle talon tsi awd and it makes a terrible rattling sound when idiling but when I go it stops and I'm very new to this dsm business could anybody help me out?

im assuming u were tryin to post a new thread, but where is the rattling coming from?

Does the rattle go away when you push the clutch in? If so, most likely your throw out bearing on the clutch is shot.
