Transmission died, methinks.

Lately I got my talon running again with a used JDM motor, and while on one of my test drives the tranny started to fail. At least, it felt like it. I'm no expert on transmissions by any means, but today was the first it had ever done this.

First, I shifted in to second, and for some reason it engaged late or somesuch, because the car literally jumped forward, very hard. I was giving it very little gas, as I would during city-driving. Then, when trying for third, it wouldn't even go in. Same with fourth. The gear just wouldn't take. So, I coasted in to the closest driveway, back out, and limped home in first, daring second again (which worked this time) and havn't driven it since.

What could this mean? I thought about posting this in problem diagnostics, but I figure if it's dead, I might as well ask about the price of a replacement transmission, or how much to get one rebuilt.

Does anyone know? I'm planning for the worst.
