London,
Hey guys, I've noticed over the past couple months a small drip under my car. Upon further inspection i realized it was the X-case. At first I thought it was the yoke but it doesn't seem to be leaking anywhere in that area. it looks like its coming from just in front of the drain plug area...see picture...

I don't believe its the drainplug its self but has anyone else ever seen a drip coming from this area? I really want to get this fixed, I've been topping it up every couple weeks but its just one last thing I don't want to worry about

Strange place indeed for a leak. Usually its the yoke or the rear seal.
Are you sure thats where its coming from and that its not dripping/collecting in that area?
Otherwise I'd suspect you have a crack or hole in the case to be leaking from there.

If someone else knows otherwise, please contribute.

ya when I first inspected it I really looked hard to see if the fluid was running down the bottom of the t-case from the yoke area however it was dry in that path. the area where its leaking is however very close to where the two sections of the t-case join. I'm wondering if that seal is shot. if it is I wonder how easy it would be to split the two sections apart to replace the gasket

are you sure it is coming from the transfer case? it could be an output shaft seal on the transmission, or it could also be a leaking rear main seal on the engine and the oil is dripping down to that area.

I'm positive its not engine oil, there's no misidentifying of syncomesh (smells literally like crap). I thought about it coming from the transmission but I'm pretty confident its not, as the seam between the tcase and tranny are dry

If you wanted to be sure whats leaking you could buy a UV dye leak detection kit. Here's what I'm talking about.

But since you have narrowed it down to the t-case I would pull the t-case off and drain it. Clean it very well and then fill it up off the car, watching to see where the oil will leak from. You could still use the dye with this method too, if the leak did not appear to be visible. It may take a while to seep out, but you should be able to narrow it down.

From the picture it looks like it may be the gasket that mates part of the case together. Or even a crack. Are all the bolts tight?

Actually i havent had a chance to check those bolts yet. I'll be installing a WBO2 tomorrow so when I'm under there I'll be sure to check that out
