I just installed a Autometer Trans temp gauge and I've run into a problem.

I re-did my tripple gauge pillar and ran all the wiring for the gauge's and egt probe and trans temp sender.

When I turn on my car the lights for the gauges come on and all of them work but the trans temp gauge. The needle comes up off the 100 to the first line.

I drove 15 miles and the needle hardly left the first line. When I kicked off OD at like 60 mph and drove for about a quarter mile it moved up about as much as the needle is thick.

I think the gauge is working though because when i shut off the car the needle drops to the number 100 just below the first line and when its on it comes up to the first line just above the number 100.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? I checked the wiring, its all right. I used 12 gauge wire for the power for the lights and power of the gauges and ran an 18 gauge wire for the sender which is what the instructions said to use for the sender probe.

I've had bad Autometer egt probes before, could the trans temp senders suck too?

Help?

Hey man, my 91 is auto also. Also happens to be a Michigan car. Anyway, where did you put the probe? If that location doesn't get too hot maybe the reading is correct. I tried searching but I don't know what the temperature operating range is for our trannies. Do you know what the operating range should be? I am thinking of getting one of those trans temp gauges also.

Just for testing it you could always try strapping it to the exhaust mani and idle the car for a bit. If everything is as it should be though, I'd call autometer and exchange it.

Honestly I'm confused on location. I know it can go anywhere in the return line but I'm sorta confused as to which one that is.

I looked on IPT's forum and in a couple posts Transdude said the line closest to the front of the car and in another said closest to the firewall.

Only thing I can figure is that it might depend on what year car you own. I'm hoping Transdude can give some light to this question.

I own a 1G and i put it in the line closest to the firewall after reading a thread where he said closest to the firewall.

Hopefully thats right and other one was maybe a 2g location ;P
