I am trying to find out if I can use a 93 AWD trans that had a 2 plug TCU in a 92 AWD with a 3 plug TCU. Are the harnesses different? they are both the same transmission W4A33.

thanks.

My automatic AWD trans came out of a 92 and I'm using the early 91 style 3-plug wire harness and TCU. You should be just fine with that setup.

Yes for turbo cars they are. IIRC non-turbo cars have some funkiness between years, and if not for some reason there are very few wires that actually come off of the transmission so you could just change the sensors on the transmission if there were a problem.

There are three harness changes..
1. The kickdown servo ( remove snap ring & switch black covers )
2. The temperature sensor ( drop pan & switch sensors or leave unhooked )
3. The park/neutral position switch on the manual control lever ( switch 93 lever for 92 lever)

Apparently I'm somewhat less aware of 1g wiring differences than I expected, consequences of not changing these?

Each of the three things I listed have a different connector..
91- early 92 have a three plug TCU harness.
Late 92 -94 have a two plug TCU harness..

Those three changes I listed are the differences between the two harnesses AT the transmission..
