I drove my 1992 Eclipse GSX last night for the first time in like 3 months. I knew it had some sort of clutch issue, but now I think that it may be a bigger problem. I can get the car in First gear and drive, makes a slight whining noise but nothing major. Im thinking it may be a little low on gear oil. I can start in second and no problem, third and no problem, 4th and no problem other than the usual bogging. Every gear works fine. Here is the problem, i cannot go from first to second, i have to skip second and go into third. When trying to put it in second gear it grinds like crazy, yet if I start it in second gear it goes fine into third, and third into fourth. I am no transmission expert, i could say im a down right noob! I am looking for a new transmission, or a place to get a rebuild kit. I don't know if Team Rip is still open, but i emailed jon to try and get a rebuild kit for the transmission. Any help is appreciated!

It could be the synchros. If your up to it try this...Start off in first and get the rpm's up a bit, maybe 3000-4000, let off the gas and try to gently slip it into second. You'll want to be pretty high rpm's and when you let off, as the rpm's drop it should let you into gear when it hits the proper rpm. You'll do this without the clutch at all. But it sounds like you're due for a rebuild.

well pulling the trans today. got a friend to help me. going to open up the case and check things out. my friend thinks the syncros are bad and its due for a rebuild and i agree with tow3r. what gets me is the previous owner had it rebuilt, so im just beyond annoyed with the car.
