I was driving to work on Monday and I was on the interstate and my car would not stay in 5th gear so after it kept popping out I decided to hold it in gear for at least 40 miles then when I got off my exit I couldn't get it in any gear. When I pulled over after a while I was able to get it into gear and now when I drive it it keeps popping out of 3rd and 5th but stays in all the other gears but it is very hard to shift through the other. Now also when my clutch is disengaged I hear a really bad rattle like the throw out bearing is bad.
What can this be????

Thanks

Yes I apologize for that does anyone know about the 420a?

Last time I did with a tranny problem I was told to put it in here. Well regardless im sorry for confusing anyone I just need to figure this out.

Check your fluid and if its low, add some and see if the problem still occurs.. Popping out of gear is usually a sign of no oil on the gear/synchro..

Ok I was going to drain the fluid and add new stuff but I couldnt seem to find the fill.

Do 2g transmissions have the same problems as 1g? This sounds like the nut came loose from under the side cover. My 1g did this a few times and I always lost 5th

I think you are lucky in that because of it being awd. Yes, they do back off. "the nut" I always use locktite to be sure. Red preferably if you don't plan taking it back apart any time soon. The fwd's don't have that particular nut. They do have the spring that was mentioned above. Just be sure you get the little tab on the spring located right when you put it back in or you will crush the tab and well, I can't remember what happens after that. But I don't think it's pretty.

Good Luck
