Tranny/Shifter Problem

Not really sure where this fits into on tunerrs but a similar situation to this has happened to my car where I was driving and after a hard shift I lost my shifter. It would not get out of 3rd gear until I got it home (barely) and when it got there I found I had knocked out one of the large clips that holds my shift cable assemblies in place. However, my friend has a turbo probe with the ft2. I'm guessing most 5spd trannies are pretty close in how they work? Anyways with his it seems to be the same situation, accept his shift will not move to the left for the life of it, but he can easily go 3-4-5-R, he has just lost the ability to use 1st and 2nd gear. Would this be cable related, or deeper than that?

Tough question. I don't have much experience with this considering that I am a newbie too. I remember reading some posts similar to this one stating something about the synchros needing replacing. That might have been a different issue. I suggest calling you local high end mechanics shop and explaining the problem to them. If they are cool about it they can give you some more knowledgeable information than I. Hope you get some more hits on here. Sounds like a nasty situation.

hey im the one with problems ...found the solution..theres a 50cent peice sized hole in the tranny..

Well if you havn't try'd, try this. Ok look at your transmisson, and on top of it there should be 2 cables bolted down with one bolt, not so sure about the probe though. Loosen the bolt, and turn it back and forth. Mean while some one in the car shifts from 1st-5th gears. The shifting should get harder or easier to do as the cables are adjusted. I really hope what I just wrote makes since, and hope it helps with your problem.
