Tranny problem

Sometimes when I go from neutral to 'D' nothing happens and it doesn't grab the gear and the engine just revs like it's still in neutral and then it tries to engage unsuccessfully but if I brake torque just a little the car then takes off without any trouble at all

well, if the fluid and filter are good, your next step should be to adjust the shift lever on the tranny. after that, i would assume you need a rebuild.
