Mississauga,
I bought a used tranny to replace my broken one in my 1997 Eclipse GSX. After installation of the new tranny, the car has only RWD. I've done searches on this and everybody points to a broken center diff, I've had a broken CF before and it DOES NOT feel anything like it. The new tranny shifts like butter and works great, makes NO noises and has no problem making small turns.
I went onto some snow today and gave it some gas, only the rears spin, and at higher rpm(s) once the boost hits, I can feel slight vibration/surgin coming from the drive-train, most likely in the rear-area.
ANYWAYS, I know there's a little known fact that there may have been some differences in the 2G trannies between the 95-96 and 97+ models. My car was made in sept. of 96. Is it possible they may be a difference in gear ratios casuing the t-case to spin up the rears faster? Effectively cooking my viscous coupling and causing the effect I`m having now?
I would like to see if anyone out here can tell me the difference between the two.
My old tranny which worked fine has the vin#: KW5M332MUZT
and the new tranny inside the car has the #: KW5M332NPZT.
Can anybody help me out? And if you can, please suggest a possible fix. Thank you very much, this is very important to me.
- Mike.
