topline piston ring Question

I have my motor at L&H Automotive and they need to know what type of rings i am going to use,, there is two types of honing they can do,, it all depends on what type of rings i plan to use, i am going to use a topline rebuild kit, i called topline and they told me that the top rings is steel with a chrome face,, and ring two was cast iron with a chrome face, and the third is plan steel,, any ideals what the hell that means,, never heard of a steel rings with a chrome face????
