Is the top line kit good for a 2g complete engine rebuild? On Slowboyracing they had it listed at 8.0:1 compression which isn't stock. How are the rest of the gaskets? I know everyone says to go with the mitsu for the head gasket. Is this kit's quality as cheap as the price? The most i'm planning on doing to my car is a 14b or 16g with less than 20 psi for sure... THanks for the help!

I have talked via email with slowboy about their rebuild kit and as far as pistons go they said they recomend them over stock. I am using their complete gasket set and front case and I am overall pleased with its quality. There is a guy on another board stating that his topline headgasket blew within a few hundred miles. When they say complete they mean complete as far as gaskets/seals go.

i have not purchased a motor from them but i find their quality and customer service to be aok, there are a few vendors i would never buy from again and slowboy is not on the list

He is refering to the Topline brand rebuild kit, not Slowboy racing.

I just bought the 1g kit. I should be getting it in the mail this coming week. Topline makes all their parts to factory spec. I had all the same questions as you, and couldn't find a good supply of answers so I just went for it. I plan to buy a MLS head gasket from Mitsu anyway though.

Topline Stock Head Gasket is STOCK quality. If overboosted it will most likely blow out :thumbdown .

Thats why Mitsu, Cometic, HKS, and SCE all make metal ones :thumb: .

Just a little bit of help.

Overboost as in how many PSI? Im going to be purchasing this kit from you guys along with alot of other things I need for my rebuild and I wanna do it right the first time, at the lowest price.

I never had good luck with head gaskets i'll make that known up front. I've spent more on having the block surfaces and head surface, checked, re checked and checked. I've done so much research into R/A quality of head finishes my brain hurt. My car blew four stock ones out in high school. I'd go to meets and see guys running 19 pounds on a stocker and it would make me sick. I never got more than 14 psi out of them. Since i've gotten older way better gaskets have evolved. The mitsu metal and cometic HP have both served me very well. At the shop we have pushed the Mitsu Metal, cometic regular, cometic HP, and HKS gaskets very hard and have gotten great results from them. Best part is all four are very streetable.

Bah, I've had to change my headgasket three times, and every time I used the stock headgasket and DIDNT get the head/block resfurfaced. I just used an abrasive pad and a gasket scraper to clean the surfaces. I've boosted over 25lbs on a EVOIII 16G and have had no problems whatsoever. Although I am running with ARP head studs, which probably helps quite a bit. I don't think metal headgaskets are really neccessary until you start running 50 trim turbos or above (400-600 HP or above) but it never hurts to be prepared. I admit that the metal ones can hold more boost without failure, but the OEM headgasket is way more reliable than most people think.
