My 90 talon tsi has about 127k. it was a highway car for a single owner till 99 then transferred to another person who had it shortly, all in tx i believe. anyways, ive got k%n cone with gm mass senor <no translator> and i cant decide to keep it stock or not. i know these cars have probs with break down issues when modding. im looking for like the first stage, just 300hp or so...eventually.

However, a few negatives about me modding....

1. cheyenne, wy altitude is 6,200ft or so. <not sure how much less o2 that is, would nitrous be good to make up for that?>
2. cheyenne, wy no good places for speed xcept some 75mph highways with lil cops.
3. not worth modding when i like v8s better. i did have a mr2turbo before slightly modded. i found out that increasing boost w/o replacing the clutch gets u no where fast LOL.

the car is pretty clean, looks like it got a new paint job, a few over sprayying areas but overall nice.

before i do anything tho, i wanna make sure my engine is in good enough shape to mod to about 300hp or so...enough for low 13s, high 12s b/c it is my daily driver.

i havent even tuned it up yet [i.e. plugs, wires, cap & rotor, which i will do early next week.] should i do compression test? also i dont have a garage just a dirt road to work on, or a lil concrete but cant spill oil....LOL.

if i do decide to mod, should i do compression test? should i get pocket logger before i do anything? get my translator first? i think this is a very weak area for dsms, well any japaneese car. i wanna be safe before just upping the boost. yes i know get boost gauge and simple mods. also whats safe on the stock intercooler? i dont like it, wanna get rid of it quick LOL but dont wanna drop 1g for front mount.

sorry for being long....post hints or flames dont matter. ty for the help tho

and yes i do have some knowledge of cars.

Mod it, but doing basic maintainence and checks is a good idea. Plugs, wires, injector cleaner, change oil, compression test, yadda yadda.

hehe kewl, i think i will....tis that or turn tables....hmmmmm.

only thing ive never done is compression test. its a tool that hooks up in place of your spark plug right? dont you like check each cylinder individually and somehow rotate the motor assembly a full stroke or what? ill check vfaq too.

only other problems i have is oil leakage on the oil filter assembly and i think my water pump is leaking b/c i can sometimes smell coolant. i already replaced my crank pulley b/c the balancer and pulley came apart, that wasnt fun, i can only imagine what water pump is like, sigh. thats why v8s are nice, everything in front of u LOL.
