I need some ideas on how to remove the fuel line on my 1g. Its rusted very badly. I can get the six screws holding the pump in the tank off but it won't come out untill the fuel line is undone. I PB blasted the crap out of it, but it won't buge. AH the joys of working on a 15 year old car.

Only real tip I have is to make sure you are using line wrenches if they're on there really tight.

You can go to www.vfaq.com for some ideas. I just sprayed mine with pb blaster for three days and nights and then I did the job with normal wrenches and it came loose on the first try. I had the two wrenches like this

and then squeezed them together and it was really easy. Maybe i just got lucky  .

I had this problem with mine also, I didnt get the bolts loose unfortunatly, Even after close to 3 cans of pb blaster and almost 2 days of trying.

This may not be the best idea but I had no other choice.

I cut a very straight thing line in the fuel line. Then once I got the new fuel pump in and everything bolted back up, There was that little | from where I cut. I just went and bought fuel line that will slip over the metal line and clamped two minti t-bolt kind of clamps on each end. It does not leak and I had no problems since then. This is just incase you have no other choice.

At least yours is in the trunk. I had a brand new full tank of gas, And found out my sending unit was attached to the drain plug :| It's not fun filling pales and icetea jugs up in front of you're house on a city street with no jack or anything. Talk about gas fumes! I felt a little weird after that job, And it wasent too obvious with about 13 pales on my porch of this yellow liquid! I'm very lucky the police didnt pass while all of this took place :shhh:

When i installed my new pump, i couldnt get my fitting to come loose after a few days of trying i had twisted it around so much, that the metal tube cracked and i had a bad gas leak, so i had to resort to what 1993eclipsegs did. No leaks as of today, but it was a bi*** to fit a new rubber fuel line hose and clamps in there, so i suggest taking your time and don't force it.

I soaked the fittings in wd40 for a few days, then used vice grips. I didnt have any problems.

I would suggest just getting new fuel line, and cutting off the old one right before and after the two flare nut fittings. It makes things so much eaiser. Also you have to be carefull not to break that line coming off the sending unit. It bends and twists very easily. Good luck :talon:

---also make sure you put enough hose on either end so you can double clamp it. :thumb:
