Hi, I have my american 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse since 4 years, i read this forum frequently. I live at Spain, here this car is not frequently. I hear a noise and I need your opinion, i think is a belt, what you saying?

At starting was no noise

1st video, the engine is warm: YouTube - first.mp4
2nd video, the engine is hot (more frequently noise): YouTube - second.mp4

Sorry for my english, Im spanish-speaking. Thanks in advance!

i am hearing 2 sounds, knocking and squeaking, i think you are talking about the squeaking, sounds like a pully or maybe the belt. try to spray wd40 into the accesory belts and see if it goes away...or take off the belts all together and see if it is still there...if you are talking about the knocking ,and it is coming from inside the timing cover ,then i would remove the timing cover, start the engine and listen... i had an auto tensioner that was on its way out and it made enough distance between the tensioner pully arm and the auto tensioner that it made a clackin/knocking noise that got faster with rpm. it also sounds like you have an exhaust leak. one more thing...do you have air conditioning? because the clutch can stick and squeel/squeak. hope some of this helps, good luck!

check your pulleys , they might be getting loose. it sounds like when the crankshaft sproket is coming loose, that happend to me when i had my old laser.

Thank you all, take WD40 on the belts and now makes no noise, only makes noise when I turn off the car (just when stops the movement of the pulleys).

Now I have another question, the timing belt has irregular edges, is a matter of changing the belt?
(attached pictures of the belt)

Timing Belt VFAQ (Timing Belt TSB - ENHANCED)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
If you are planning on changing the timing belt on your car and really don't know where to start follow this guide. This is the guide that is used I do believe with most of the people on this website have started out using untill they were comfortable with the changes. And also if you are going to plan on changing the Timing belt then you are going to also want to change the "B" belt since you are already having the timing belt off since the "B" belt is right behind the timing belt. :thumb:

And usually when the timing belt break = serious engine problems that could set you back in money and also time away from driving your DSM!

I know the risks if breakes the timing belt. I planned to use this guide for change my timing belt. Is dangerous drive my car (only for two months or less) with the timing belt in the status showed at the photos?

Taking a close look at the pictures I would replace the belt. It seems to have receivd some damage along the edge. While your at it check the pulleys and tensenior for wear. If you have gone that far replace the other belts and check the water pump for leaks or wear.

Yes, I will change timing belt and balance belt (with pulleys), water pump and accesory belts.
Now I'm busy changing the head gasket of my BMW 318i E30, but in two months or less I will replace these parts in mi DSM. Unfortunelly, I need to use my eclipse while changing the dead gasket.
