i got a 1g with 272 hks cams and a comp that has been worked over from jeff at dsm chips with new timing map and a raised idle to 900rpm. i set timing with the wire grounded for base timing of 5deg. will this raised idle affect what i set for base timing? i was boosting 20 psi with 22deg at 7000rpm. is this kinda seeming normal? any help will be great! Thanks!

You got an AFC? That's a LOT of timing for pump gas. What turbo? I've personally ran 25psi on pump with a 50 trim, and an AFC cranked back to -25%, so it's DOABLE. You gotta have one hell of an efficient comp. wheel, as well as a good FMIC, and keep an eye on the datalogger!

i got a maft translator gen2 with a 3.5 gm maf in blow through. what kind of base timing should i be looking for at 900 rpm idle? im thinking that the comp is pulling to much timing because of base timing. would you think that this might be the issue? i read some where that timing is more then anything the power maker. what boost would you run on a cx racing big 16g, 23"x11"x3", 3" Core vertical flow fmic. not sure that ic is doing its job or if i need things to cool the intake temp. do you know if those intake heat sheilds work well? got any ideas? Thanks!

well thanks for clearing it up for me. im thinking that i should check it again. when i set the base timing the first time the idle was all over the place.might be a good thing to check. Thanks for the help!!
BTW whats a safe psi i should run for my max boost. not asking to figure out some logs of mine but what most people run on stock bottom end. TRhanks for the help bud!

Idle should be steady, ~750rpm. Make sure the timing connector is grounded before setting. If your car can get away with 22deg max timing @ 20psi, more power to you. Every car is different. I got away with 20* timing @25psi on a 50 trim, but I was on Shell 93octane. Just gotta see what your setup/gas will allow.

theres no way i can turn down the idle speed. jeff said i would need the 900 to keep idle smooth. he said there was too much over lap in the cams at 750+-50 and it would make a lumpy idle. what should i do now? im trying to get this thing running good at about 18 psi and go check some et slips. should i use some vp c16 at 20 pounds? is that ok for a stock bottom end with 46,500 miles? im sure it would help with some timing dont you think? sorry i have done lots of work on others cars and dikes but not much tuning. Thanks for all the help!!!

The HKS 272's will have a lopey idle at 750rpm. All depends on what you want it to sound like. As far as boost and gas go,stick to something under 20psi on pumpgas, and if you can find C16, then you can crank it up to 25psi or so. Make sure to lean it out a little onthe C16. You can run about 12.0:1 AFR on race gas, and I'd keep the pumpgas tune around 11.2:1, to be safe.

i turned down the boost to 12psi and the waste gate cracks at 10 but still boosting 18psi+. ??? well new prob to mess with. they dont specify enough on spring crack pressure. aem tru boost is going to be the end to my motor! LOL!

so i know its been a while but i have not got this problem figured out. was trying to take a brake from all this stuff and got into a new hobby for a bit but i wiill always love this or "these" cars! well i just got the mmcd working again."batt died" but have got some logs recorded. im realy thinking that this intercooler is a little too small. i have been easy on the motor this whole time and have messd with a few things to try and settle the knock count but no luck. right now i have been seeing 16 counts of knock at 5156rpm 96% on tps and 81.2% on low, mid, and high fuel trim. is there a person that could help me check out some logs here? i got ms office but have no idea how to post them but there is not a clear post that walks me through the process. i have looked for the process on search but no luck. if anyone knows where to find it off the top of there head please let me know. one more thing....on the log i have noticed that jeff has set my air temp to -75.7*F and baro to 0.07 psi. would this be one of the problems? jeff said that this might be an aggressive timing map for my car.... not sure what i should start with irst. its been a whgile so please go easy on me! Thanks guys!:)

well i have found the fourm that tells you how to turn a log into a file for posting but i cant get or dont have excell or anything. is there a diffrent program thats free that i could use?
