Ok, so I have searched this topic on here for some time and can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. I've rebuilt my 420a and I'm currently boosting at about 14lbs and everything seems fine.
Idle: 8 to 900
A/F: 14.7 avg
Vacc: 19inches

At start-up the motor seems to shake more so than it use to, to me. The car feels like as if my timing were off by a little. As most of you know, its quite the work to take everything apart just to adjust timing on our car so.. what I'm wondering has anyone found a module that can adjust timing electronically. I was wondering if the MSD 6BTM with the timing controller PN 8680 will work on our motor ignition system. It would be great to be able to adjust timing from inside the car if possible. Im running portfuler and not MegaSquirt because I live in TX and I have to pass state inspection etc...

First off, I hope your idling at 800 to 900 LOL. 8-9k is a tad high ;). But as for timing, did you pull the inspection cover and make sure everything is lined up?

^^Sorry, I ment 8 to 900! Lol, but yes from what I remember how the marks line up on the crank and the gears, everything was in line. I'm thinking it had to be right or else I wouldn't be getting the numbers that I'm currently reading.

Also after driving for a while, the shaking seems to settle to normal engine vibrations. Almost as if the ECU makes adjustment to the timing advance itself.

All good I was just giving ya $hit LOL! **** edit - never mind.

Also to your original question about the timing controller, I think some have used a MSD controller in correlation to the portfueler. I don't know about the results tho!

Well, I see alot of guys run the MSD DIS 2 on our setup but I think thats just for more spark and rev limiting. I'm trying to find a shop to tune the car for me and they always ask what do I have in place to control timing and spark. So I just want to basically know what add-on could I use besides Megasquirt and other stand alone ECU's.

Your talking about 2 different things here. Mechanical timing of the cams to the crank vs the ignition timing. No ignition controller will compensate for the mechanical timing being off. You need to check your timing marks to make sure they line up.

^^^^^ I was going to ask which he was taking about but can't type fast enough on my iPad :(.

I don't think even an ignition timing source would fix your shake tho, it would have to be quite a ways off if it were the case. Has your car done this since you got it running not long ago?

I guess it would be mechanical timing I'm looking at adjusting but figured there has to be a way to adjust when the spark triggers to make up for it being off a little. I guess adjustable cam gears is the only way to adjust mechanical timing on our engine without breaking half the engine down to get to it.

^^Yes, but I just figured it was just apart of the break in and eventually things will settle in.
