timing belt wobble

Can someone please help me? The car runs fine, but the timing belt has a groove in it by the engine side, the longer I drive it the worse it wears obviously. The groove is solid, and every 0.25" of an inch is a deeper dug out spot. Some spots even have pinholes in them. When you rev it the belt rises about an inch or 2 in between the cam pullies. WTFI also observed the belt walks or wobbles from side to side on the pulleys. It also seems the cam pulleys have a slight wobble, or it could be my eyes decieving me from the belt. A guy told me the cam bearings might be worn, but I don't see it. I have already checked the oilpan bolts and they are fine, I even ground them down a bit for piece of mind. I need to find the cause before I put my new timing setup on, no use of ruining a good belt. Please help me, this is a pain in my a**.

Check to see if you Hydraulic Tension is working/ still bolted down and if your eccentric tensioner is still set. If the belt rises like you are describing it doesn't sounds like your tensioning system isn't tight. Or the belt could be really stretched but not that much...

There is some kinda sound coming form that area in general, might be the tentioners? I have the complete setup ready to be put on, but I have to find out what is causing the rubbing.

If the belt is flapping on the top of the engine chances are it is flopping in other areas. Take the timing cover off if it is and take a look. I bet you will see an area eaten up on the cover from the belt hitting it.

Personally I would not run the car anymore since the belt can snap at anytime. Then you risk valve damage.

Do not start the car up anymore, the belt will jump and you will have a lot of work ahead of you. Start putting the covers off and take a look. My guess is that it's just bad tensioner and pullies may be bad. If you have a complete set of timing components go ahead and put them on, your problem lies with the timing components most likely and replacing them should solve your problem. You AC belt may also be loose and causing it to hit against your timing belt, but when you pull your cover off you should see a pretty nice gouge in it from the ac belt.

The t-belt is decently tight when it isn't running. It has a cheapo conitech t-belt on it, the pulleys look old, like oem. I bet they didn't change tentioners and idler when they changed the t-belt. I also noticed a noise coming from that area in general. The sound is kinda hard to describe.

Make sure everything is Mitsubishi timing parts that you're replacing it with.

our cars dont have cam bearings. It sounds like you need to replace the timing belt and tensioner.

Mitsubishi timing belts are recommended but I have heard of a lot of guys I know that go with the gatorback timing component kit from auto zone. If I didn't have a kevlar timing belt I would get a gatorback kit

why bump a thread thats only been open one full day, anyways your problem is more then likely your tensioner if it's wobbling, theres only 6 parts your timing belt touches, both cams, crank gear, oil pump gear, and tensioner why don't you just order a new timing belt and tensioners and do a timing belt job. also does your timing belt have any marks on it at all theres a possiblilty there is a bolt that is touching the belt making it off center and make it wobble.

I have ordered the parts, sorry for the repeated bumps, just trying to get as many opinions as i could as quick as I could. Kinda in a hurry trying to get this thing togather. Thanks for your input.
