ok this is wierd and im not quite sure what it is, im no expert on steering/handling topics.

anyways this started not to long ago, but when I come out of a turn sometimes instead of the wheel smoothly straightening itselt out, it will kind of hop, like go up a little, down slightly, repeat untill straight.

or sometimes when im braking (well it seems more like when im braking I notice) the steering wheel bobbles left and right (turns left and right). Ive evened out all tire pressures and that didnt really do anything, and I want to say I dont need an alignment because when you move the wheel the car moves so theres no play, but when I let off the wheel it wants to go to the right (pretty noticable right) so somethings going on here, unless the tire pressure went out already on that tire.

the car also seems kind of bouncy sometimes, but it could be the road, since my moms beetle wants to do the same thing sometimes.

I know I really need some new brakes but I doubt that has anything to do with it (if pads were sticking itd make a horrible noise id guess)

anyone know whats going on here? id like to get it fixed. hope I explained this well.

A huge reason for car's steering wheels wobbling back and forth during braking, is the need to replace the rotors. The reason being, is that the rotors have been warped, either by heavy or hard braking a lot. They are easy to replace yourself, as long as you have a set of mechanics tools, a jack, and some jack stands (don't want the car dropping on you). :thumb: It will cost you about $50 to $100 for the fronts if you replace them yourself, or just take it to a shop to get them replaced.

Now for the bouncing effect, my car does that sometimes, try driving another sports car (driving something that is kinda even as far as suspension characteristics are concerned, no 4x4's here). Use the same street(s) that way you can tell if your car's suspension needs to be replaced or not.

Hope this helps, bro. Good luck! :thumb:

my old rotors were warped i got those swapped with a set of stock diameter crossdrilled slotted and vented brembos, its not that i know.

if your car pulls to the right while you're not accelerating or hitting the brakes, you need an alignment. Or check your tire pressures, sometimes you'll get lucky and it'll just be that.

if its not warp rotors then you can try checking your the power steering boots and see if they are torned apart/broken.

alright thanks for the responses, its looking like I need brakes/rotors and an alignment.

The steering wheel doesnt have to have play in it to need an alignment right?

also the steering wobbles when I accelerate too, but only from a stop, when im going 45 or whatever just crusing it doesnt sit there and wobble.

well it looks like the blunt of the problem was a tire. My front driver side tire dry rotted and a huge chunk of tread was missing, and a lot of the tire was getting cracked. I got it replaced, and the steering is normal now :)

Same thing happened with my buddy, his tire was rotting and the middle was buldged out so the tire wasnt even flat. Also fixed.

So...for anyones future searching reference. Steering wobble or shaking fix may be your tires!
