Hi,
i've got 30'000 miles on my 95 GSX.
Now I'm going with an EVOIII setup.

Do you think it would be a good idea to change the T-Belt (maybe even a kevlar?), water pump,....

I find it important to get good quality, especially for Timing Belt,..., I want to buy it from a good vendor.

What do you think about that?

should i take the optional balance shaft belt for $25.00 and the balance belt tensioner pully for $35.00. ?
Do I need something more?

What do you think about the water pump? or other things?

thanks a lot

Mike,

If those are 30,000 original miles then I would consider changing all of the timing components since the recommended frequency is 5 years/60,000 miles. If you had it changed since you've owned the car and there's only 30,000 miles on the new components, then I would wait until you came close to the required service limits. The unfortunate thing about timing and balance shaft belts is that unless something drastic is wrong, it's difficult to visually inspect the belt and verify it's condition.

I would also recommend that you use all OEM parts and if you decide to replace everything to also change the water pump, idler, auto tensioner, balance shaft belt and timing belt. Since the SBR kit is OEM it will work fine. Kevlar belts aren't necessary for your application since the OEM belt is much stronger than you can possibly imagine.

Hope that helps,

Andy

Good list Andy....I'll just throw my extra $0.02 worth and suggest that if you're going in there to also replace the 5 seals (I'm seal anal). 2 cam seals, crank seal, oil pump seal, and balance shaft seal if you still have it.

It would suck to do all that work and a couple of months down the road have a leak at the front, plus seals are cheap.

I would also inspect the arm that the tensioner pushes against as over time the tensioner can wear a dimple in the arm.
