timing belt let go...

on my way to work this afternoon my timing belt broke
is my engine toast or can i just replace my belt?
the haynes manual i have makes it sound like a royal
pain to replace any help would be great.

From what i've read and from what i've heard it's not for beginners. That is one of the few things that i take to someone to get done.

Sorry to say, but most likely you pistons made mad contact with your valves and your valves bent like noodles Sorry Man

Well that's like at least 3 or 4 who joined the Jumped Timing Belt Club TONIGHT - We ought to have some Vendor Sponsor a standing Thread... Where guys can just check in when they lose a timing Belt, maybe be get a plaque or something...

BTW the Haynes manual is an even MORE confusing POS than the factory Manual & THAT'S saying something...

i had my dsm inspected before i bought it and they said timing belt was one of the first things to be replaced (and the dealership is replacing it, probably has now) and the place where i had the talon inspected the guy said the timing belt went, i would be looking at a brand new engine for 2500...

take off the valve cover and see if anyhthing looks outta place, but most likely your gonna have to pull the head anyway

Just looking at the Cam Sprockets may not tell you anything - USE the Starter to "bump" the Engine to where the Timing Mark on the Crank Pulley is at the TDC Mark on the Lower Timing Belt Cover - THEN check the Marks on the Cam Sprockets.

Replacing the timing belt is not a easy task. And unfortunately, if it blew while in motion, it's not jut the belt that needs to be replaced. When mine blew, it made a mess of the engine. I just had it rebuilt for 2K, and hitched rides with my friends for 4 months. Good Luck.
