How much does it cost to have all 5 belts, tensioners, pulleys, etc... The whole works for installation and parts? Usually... Around what price range? For a 1990 Talon

Thanks,

I had a local mechanic friend do everything INCLUDING parts for $450 but he gets parts at invoice cost and is usually pretty cheap. I called a dealership and they said like $550 for just the timing belt and balance belt so i dunno how much tensioners and water pump would add. around 500 sems to be a norm for basic belt and stuff change. 5 belts?? that isnt right is it. I thought there was just timing and B-belt under there unless u mean accessories?

he prob means ac belt and alt. belt as well.... around here it costs 150$ labor for a timing belt, but prices vary and i suggest you do it yourself.

If you want to do it right STRONGLY consider pulling the Front Case & changing out ALL Oil Seals - deleting Rear Balance Shaft & replacing it with Mirage Oil Pump Shaft - & a Water Pump.

dont do the belt if you dont know what your doing. A 500.00 will quickly turn into 2000.00 . Shop around , try to find someoen who knows about DSM cars . These cars are like women , no one fully understands them. Good luck

I've got an idea: call three or more shops in your area and ask them what it would cost. And then cross-reference the costs with old threads on here.

Parts alone are easily over $200. Since most shops are filled with morons when it comes to DSMs, best bet is to find a local, good-reputation DSMer to do it.

do i need all the bells and whistles with the tensioners or just the tensioners... i know i should change everything but should i be good if i only change the 2 belts and the tensioners... and not hte tension adjuster, pulley, spring and spacer?

If you have over 100k, just change everything and spend the extra $100 so you don't have to worry about it. It's nice driving a 150k-mile car that you know is as reliable as a new one. I look at my my tach that's about to turn 160k and I don't think twice about the reliability.
