my car is making a ticking noise above 1000 rmp it seem to be coming from the intake manifold maybe the head the car still seems to run fine but dont know what is causing that noise has anyone ever came across this or have any idea what it might be??? the cause of the noise might have been because i push the boost up to high if that helps???

If it's just lifter tick you can get the revised lifters, or clean your old ones with deisel fuel. Also, it could be you intake manifold bracket rattling when you accelerate. Probably the lifters but worth a quick check to make sure nothing is loose.

200 miles ago and i did put that but that was befor the noise started so i already got engine restor in it along with royal purp

im guessing lifters too. not uncommon for our engines. my 1st eclipse sounded like a can of spray paint was mounted to the engine.

i got the 3g revised lifters when i rebuilt my head. Altough my lifter tick was limited to cold starts. it stoped it, kind of costly if you just want the tick to go away. but if your ever in there, you may as well.

I hear that the OEM oil filter has some kind of return valve that helps out with that too. try switching to a Mitsubishi filter next oil change. just go in and ask for a new evo filter. its smaller too.

oil additives may reduce, but i dont think they can eliminate the noise. i would use the super thick STP additive. i thought i worked well for a $1. never tried the Lucas formula. give that a shot with the next oil change too.

but im going to have to check that intake manifold baraket because when the noise first started it started as a humming/rattle then about 30min later it was just a rattle/tick that that got louder as th rpm got louder but at idle it doesnt sound at all i would think that a lifter would still tick at idle

no the tick /noise doesnt go away at all only at idle of course it sounds the same when the engine is cold and hot . it starts above 1k and get louder with accleration

the day it started i was pushin some unsafe boost on the stock fuel system if that helps. i thought mybe with the boost i cause the noise

Do you have a video camera? That would help alot as far as pinpointing the noise. As far as too much boost on stock fuel system, that can cause minor problems to major depending on how long you ran the car like that. Could cause, a boost leak, fuel cut, blown head gasket, exhaust leaks, melted piston(s), and the list goes on. A ticking noise is alot easier to pinpoint w/ a video.

Does the car still run strong or is it sluggish?

Hope you turned the boost down, and keep it at a safe level until you have the proper mods for higher boost.

the car is still running strong its just that noise i seen some videos of other people with bad lifters and it dosent sound like the sound thats coming from my car ima try to post a video up

I have heard that lifter tick dosen't hurt anything. Just use some oil additives to clean out your oil system. That will help some.

If it doesn't sound like lifter tick it's possible the hydrolic tensioner is leaking or worn out and making noise. When mine started to go bad it made a similar sound to lifter tick but more of a deeper sound and you couldn't really hear it at idle but from the point you hit the gas all the way through the rpm's until I'd hit the clutch to shift it would be fairly loud. Even in the car with a 3in turbo back it was still very audible, and annoying. Might be time for a full timing belt job.

Another thing if its coming from the intake manifold area, it could be his idle control sensor(I think thats what its called, it connects to the throtle body). I know mine is bad and ticks sometimes. That could be something else to look at.

could be a bad pcv but it is probly the lifters. try puting a little auto tranny fluid in the oil. it will clean the trash out of the lifers. i stoped mine by useing synetheic 5w20. it was so thin it was like pouring water in my engine

i have two block off plates i belive one is for the isc i was woundering if it was to be the isc and i put them on will it stop the ticking or is it to late, or does it just not have anything to do with it.

If your ISC is blocked off that will not be the problem. Sometimes a used and old ISC will get "stuck" open or closed and will make a loud clicking noise. But if its removed it wont be that. If it happens all the time you may have some more serious problems than lifter tick. I would drain the oil and check for and metal colouring or shavings.

Dude I had a similar ticking problem but mine was after you would accelerate the car and let go when the revs are going down the ticking would start and go away... well long story short, My beautiful spyder is now dead and the ticking was replaced by knocking... very loudly and all the way from idle to red line  Big loss of power and well from what I can assume blown engine so best of luck :D and hopefully you don't have an experience like mine.

Player69jcr, Is your isc still installed and plugged in w/ a block -off plate in the throttle body or is it removed totally, b/c if it's still in with the block-off plate that will make it click over and over b/c it's trying to open. If so unplug it and see if the noise stops.

no i never installed it but i thought that if it was the isc and if i was to install the block off plate the noise would stop

Just from my experience: If it's an electrical ticking, ignore this post. However, I had a ticking sound from my intake manifold and it turned out to be my intake valves not sealing properly. So on the compression stroke of my engine, the air would rush back into the intake manifold causing a sharp "whoosh" sound, which could be mistaken for a "ticking" sound. Obviously, a compression check revealed zero compression in that cylinder. Just something you might want to check..
